Mangaluru: Young Salomi Alvares stuns with 12-character performance in 'Munni' monodrama

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Jan 27: 'Munni' a path-breaking drama was staged at Kalaangann on Sunday, January 25. The uniqueness of the monodrama was that 12 different characters were played by child artiste Salomi Alvares, thus creating a history of sorts.

The drama jointly organized by Konkani Sahitya Academy and Mandd Sobhann was part of the two-day children's drama festival.

Innovations have been part of drama tradition since time immemorial. Konkani too has seen them especially in the recent past. The contributions of Kalakul, Vishwa Konkani Kendra and Sadhana Balaga should be remembered here.

Konkani Sahithya academy award winner John Permannur who has introduced many innovative things in Konkani drama had a different concept this time. It came out in the form of his new drama 'Munni'.

'Munni' is the story of a destitute. The author shares her happiness and sadness both in the story. She is the product of a live in relationship. She has a life like others. But that life has its own disadvantages.

Salomi Alvares who enacted the role of Munni simply excelled. In the one and half hour drama, Munni is the only role. Even though Salomi had to play only one role, she had portray a wide range of different emotions of a person. That was not easy, but Salomi did justice to her role with elan.

Salomoi studies in 9th standard at St Agnes, daughter of Konkani activist Stany Alvares, she has acted in many plays from childhood. She has won best student prize twice in two Mandd Sobann drama training camps. 'Ajall' 'Shithak Khar Nai, Khandhyak Bhar Nai' 'Konknenth Jiyethelyanv ani Morthelyanv' 'Rayachi Novi Mustayki' 'Bhukechi Vollok' are some of the dramas she acted in. She has acted in Kannda dramas as well.

Salomi takes her father as her role model. He too has acted in many dramas.

John Permannur wrote and directed the drama. The new concept and innovation were well appreciated by the audience.

Eric Ozario, Dr B Devdas Pai, Luvi J Pinto, Dayan D'Souza, Andrew L D'Cunha, Edith D'Souza were present during the show among others.

Congrats dear John Permannure and Salomi. Salomi you are the best, but we must encourage and understand there are many children who are blessed by many Talents but no encouragement and recognition since no one is there to support them and bring them up.
