Mangaluru: Private bus kills school boy at KS Rao Road

Mangaluru, Jan 28: A school boy was killed on the spot after a bus hit him at KS Rao Road here on Wednesday January 28.

The deceased boy has been identified as Anand Raj, a student studying in fourth standard at Ganapathy School at Janatha Bazar.

It is said that three studentsincluding Anand Raj were on their way to school when the accident took place. They were crossing the road when the city bus 13B named 'Golden' named going towards State Bank from Kunjathbail hit the backpack of Anand Raj. Anand fell and the bus moved over him, killing him on the spot. 

It is learnt that Anand's elder brother Rajkumar, who is studying in 7th standard, was holding Anand's hand when the bus rammed into the boy.

Anand Raj was the son of Sumithra and Rajamani from Ballana house in Kateel. He was the fourth among the couple's five children.

The bus driver escaped from the spot soon after the accident.

Traffic west police have registered a case.

    in mangaluru or so as to say in our district there is no commonsense in drivers . there is no respect for road users. the drivers mostly from city and service buses, drivers of tippers and trucks . mini tempos, auto etc have least respect to traffic rules and regulations.There is no proper ution of laws by the Police and RTO officers also.In fact in mangalore /DK Jilla these drivers do not care for either POLICE OR RTO officials. There is no proper footpath for the pedestrians, no proper zebra cross markings. It is also a common feature in our district that every drivers drive in high speed. Even if he is going to stop ahead, the driver will overtake. and also driving in the wrong side/one way has become very common. it is sad that neither the police nor the RTO are taking any note of this. in the instant case it is known and it is a fact that the killer driver of 13B was talking in the mobile and that caused the accident. The boy is from weaker section of the society and hence there is no support for them. but had the accident involved a person from affluent society the reaction of the authorities would have been different. this is the faith of our city/district/country.

    Inspite of many such accidents, the city bigwigs will not do anything to make a difference. Has anyone tried walking on the little road which connects the city centre mall to Light house hill. There is no place for one way traffic but someone in their generosity has allowed traffic to move both ways. This road has an apartment on one side and residences on the other. Most of the residents here are senior citizens and it is really frightening to see some of them attempting to walk to their homes. And What about the fate of the pedestrians? there is no one to check the speed of the vehicles moving there. we tried speaking to Mr J R Lobo and he had promised to look into it but nothing much has happened. One of these days, a similar accident will take place here and then it will be in the news for a few days, after which all will be forgotten. Mera Bharath Mahan

    I myself out of curiosity called up the Mayor of MCC to know what action would be taken against this bus driver. Unfortunately, the call was not answered.
    I then called up the Corporator of Ward #41 Mrs. Poornima in the evening to know the same. However, she responded stating "I am unaware of this. I shall check if this accident has taken place under my ward or the other". This is our fate for the leaders whom we rely and choose for during elections.

    some body would have used their common sense while constructing this city centre mall ,bcos this mall most of the traffic jam happens.
    a under pass road shud have planned to the entry and out towards this mall.during festal season it is better not to go this road,these bus bus do not have any fear towards rules and regulation and our police dept.

    very unfortunate incident. It's not an accident. It's another accident by the cruel driver community. we the public just count these instances. No respective authorities are making a note. They are happy with their families, enjoying lavish life. It's almost daily thing now a days. So many accidents. Whole public speaks about this. But the stupid officers, may be from Police, may be from RTO... nobody wakes up. It's tears in my eyes when I read this news. Look at the cute smile of the boy and the screaming parents. What a loss. A growing boy lost his life just because of a evil driver. If I get to catch hold of that driver, I may kill him beating with stones... really. So anger because, knowingly such incidents may occur, knowingly some innocents may get killed... knowing all these , these evil creatures drive so rash, reckless... so I feel let's do it once. When such an accident happens where it's evident it's because of drivers reckless drive, let's all public join together and kill the driver on the spot. May be that time everybody will wake up, driver community, RTO officers and police....

    Another death on city street. A precious life is gone. I wish someone will grab this driver and choke Him. While this accident was happening another bus would have killed at least one or two from Milagres School. The group of 5 who were crossing the road near Wenlock Hospital were escaped from close call. Bus number 4 of SR Brothers in a bid to overtake another bus No 3 just missed hitting Me too. Me and my 2 workers were stabilizing the road Barriers. The Rickshaw drivers during night were pushing the Barriers away to make a U Turn. This was creating accidents. Immediately I called Kadri Station and stopped the bus for fine. I wish every one should take action immediately as I do. Now almost everyone has Mobile Phone. Then why are you afraid to call. Either everyone should call and take action or die under the wheel of Bus along with loved ones.

    Horrible,the poor Boy would have helped Family if ..the Driver was not careful about his driving and killed him.We cant blame children,first of all they are children,second our traffic is so careless,that even the elder People,young People are knocked down by These reckless driving.They are not driving but just like a F-1car race,there is no footpath,no proper rules following.when so how can a small Boy can survive?It hits always the poor.My heartfelt sympathy to the Family.The bus owner should compansate the Family,when Driver is not caught. should not allow so to happen in future.The owner should is having profits and the poor goes under the tyres.certainly owner knows where he is staying.(Driver)

    These idiot private bus drivers may kill me ,you all one day.Enough , we should react immediately whenever such accident(murder) happens. But people of dakshina kannada don't react,(ayeg daye bodithnd maraya,enk daye adikaprasanga). We dont need such express speed in city limit even we have seen Udupi Mangalore bus.Whether such rash driving required? Everyone wants to react but nobody dare to speak , we should individually oppose while bus crosses 6okmph,then others will also have dare to react on the situation.Please stop this killing ... public should unite and react effectively,shud catch that bus driver and break his leg so that he shud not drive further and will pass the message to those bus owners or association that public is ALERT........

    In mangalore no value for life. No body protested the killing. In the city speed limit is 25 km to 35 Km. But busses entering the city with 80 km speed and kills the people. Nobody has a time to protest but time to create communal unrest.

    In the recent concluded traffic safety week it seemed whos who of Mangalore authorities got together to wash off their responsibilities and blame the children for their lack of education.
    DC Ibrahim said Traffic Rules should be added in School Curriculum.
    Police commissioner Murugan said Every citizen should know his/her duty while walking or driving on the road.”
    MLA J R Lobo in his presidential address said that the road safety week should be organized with training workshops and added
    as DC Ibrahim suggested, there should be a lesson on traffic rules in the school curriculum.
    RTO Afzal Ahmed Khan welcomed this August gathering.Mayor Marla was not in attendance.

    Now who would you blame this death.They would tell ‘I told you so the other day it’s the lack of education to the children like Anand Raj’

    My son studied traffic rules. Always walk on footpaths. Cross at Zebra Crossings or when the pedestrian signal turns green. I might soon have to stop him from going to school for there are no footpaths or zebra crossings on the way to his school only zipping traffic. Then there are those in authority who lecture and try to wash of the blood of innocent of their hands and do photo opportunities to put in up in their websites.

    Ever in india the bus driver got life imprisonment or death penalty for the accident .this is our law soon he will be out and he will do the same accident and run the bus like his father property . install CCTV then u see what really happened .but there is no strict law over the road accident. if the driver committed this accident by not following the law it should be turnd in to murder .if he followed the rules then there wont be a accident we should put more walkable flyover so the people can cross. Or simple law of public kill the driver at the same place just by throwing stone . then all the drivers will never commite a mistake

    Driving discipline absolutely zero..... bus, auto, private vehicles... no one bothers about driving discipline.
    Road infrastructure is pathetic, no proper footpath, no zebra cross, every dept keeps digging the road.. .. WHOM SHOULD WE APPROACH FOR SAFETY.
    RTO for god's sake wake up and whip the concern dept and whip the criminal drivers ( RTO's close family member can also be victim of bad infra or bad divers)

    I Very much agree, we must stop this Private buses running on roads like maniacs with immediate effects private buses to be stopped and KSRTC to be brought in. I am not saying that this will solve our worries but it will reduce drastically. I have seen many times on road buses will be stopped on middle of the road immediately just to pick up or 1 person.     I blame the MCC officials since there no zebra crossings on this road (K.S Rao). Whatever paint was there as been cleared from the road, since the road is busy one because the traffic from Bunts hostel side is diverted to K.S.Rao Road the MCC should see to the zebra crossings. The motorists and riders are ignorant about the zebra crossings. Finally there should be more traffic police on this road, when any politician visits M'lore we see a number of police on the roads.

    The private bus kills school boy at K S Rao Road Very sorry and pathetic.But driver of the bus absconded.We the public are fools to express/air/comment our opinions/feelings in this column.There were many such comments,opinions expressed and appeared in this column many times in the past also but without any implications or results.Now whom to blame?Bus owners,drivers,conductors,MCC or the public or RTO.Everybody trying to shirk their responsibilities to others shoulder.Here blame game will start.Who are the losers? Poor parents because they lost their children.Nobody come to their rescue at this juncture.So silly it is.Bus drivers are thinking that they flying aeroplanes.So irresponsible,so rude and uncultured without any manners.This is the eye opener and warning alarm for the concerned departments,authorities to open their eyes from the deep slumber and do something good.So sad.RIP.Deepest condolence to the bereaved family members.May God grant them enough courage,energy,patience to overcome this irreparable loss.

    I walk with my two kids in Hampankatta and I cannot cross the road and have to squeeze through the barriers. The traffic flows incessantly on both sides and we are stranded in the middle in an island created by ourselves, praying that the drivers can see our small kids clinging to our arms.
    I walk in Bejai , Bunts hostel, PVS square and the story is same. Then there is the Airport road where fast moving traffic zooms and the pedestrian is forced to walk on the road too. There is no footpath. Presidents, PM's CMs pass on this road with their red beacons and the common man (God bless RK Laxman) has to cling on to safety.

    Private bus drivers in Mangalore / SK Districts are MANIACS- they only know how to step on the accelerator, jam the brakes while continuously using those ear splitting HORNS. Despite several fatal accidents the RTO and the Traffic police do not seem to be bothered, corruption and political pressure coupled with a "I could not care less attitude" are responsible for this mess. Public must thrash the driver and set the bus on fire - this is the only solution.

    We have had enough of this nuisance. All Mangaloreans should come forward and protest against the authorities.

    It is a very sad news. An innocent child sacrifice his life in that accident. There is no proper foot path in KS Rao Road. The Mangalore corporation should take this seriously otherwise such accidents may happen in future. The main cause of such accident is lack of proper city planning. Besides proper foot path the KS Rao road itself is narrow.

    I cannot help feeling that buses and rickshaws are a menace to the pedestrians and the general public. Over speeding even in crowded areas is a very common sight. With regard to rickshaws - it is very very frequest sight to see them overtaking from the left thus endangering the lives of people. Hope the traffic department comes down heavily on all erring drivers.

    Very sad incident. Busses should move carefully in areas where schools are situated. Most pitying thing is that the children from the family with the parents are shattered of course, but no once else seems to be either consoling the children or parents(in the pics) and they are left to their fate. Is it because they are poor? This is the most sad thing I observed.

    Inna lillahi wa inna ilaihi rajioon. It is really sad that such incident happened. These things will repeat unless we all make changes in the way roads, vehicles, pedestrians are currently managed. Good roads with proper foot path and zebra crossings are needed. This should be supported by proper road marks, sign boards and signals. Lastly we need to have strict training for the drivers and also to children at school. Just wondering what is preventing the Administration to have such a system? Is it lack of money or interest?

    Exactly. The menace of accidents caused by private buses has to stop. Enough of deaths. The government has to put speed governors on the buses. Licenses should be suspended for a minimum of 5 years. At least then they'll be careful. Clearly they have no value for human life.

    Private bus drivers are behaving as if they are participating in formula 1! None of these drivers are having sense of humanity or respect to common passengers. The private bus owners are controlling the sate government , even one fellow is a minster in Nidrammayya government!!
    God can only save common man from these monsters!!

    It is indeed sad that a young life is lost. I really have no way understanding who will reign in the city buses. The government taking over the urban transport is highly necessary at the moment. Two wheeler riders, pedestrians are at peril every moment. Authorities please do something I beg. At once take over the private transport and bring sanity to Mangalore roads.

    In India and in Mangalore in specific, there is no respect towards pedestrians at all. How many places on roads located in densely populated areas like KS rao rd we have zebra crossing? Even if some places we have Zebra crossing how many drivers respect the pedestrians and allow them to cross? Ans is NIL. And that too bus drivers?

    why cant authorities put an end to the reckless driving by buses? they need to keep up their time. they will slow down if a animal is on the road and never slow down if people are crossing the road.strange.we are many decades backward compared to the western world.bus driver needs to be stuffed in his mind he is on a public road and not in a race competition.
