Mangalore, Jan 6: Rajya Sabha member and former KPCC president Janardhan Poojary alleged that the Sangh Parivar was trying to divide the society through conventions like Hindu Samajotsav.

Addressing a press meet here on Friday January 5, Poojary entreated the members of the backward classes not to join communal activities and said that they should instead strive to better themselves academically.

He further said that the members of the backward classes have become victims of those of the upper castes who do not directly participate in communal riots unlike their counterparts.

With regard to the recent Sachar Committee report which stated that 94 per cent of  the Muslims are below poverty line, he alleged that the Sangh Parivar was trying to suppress the Muslim Community.

Among those present at the press meet were mayor Vijaya Arun, former mayor Purandaradas Kuloor and senior Congress leaders.
