Bengaluru: Christian leader welcomes 'Ghar Wapsi' of 'unwanted' elements in community

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Feb 1: Anti-corruption activist and President of Indian Christian United Forum (ICUF) Abraham T Joseph, better known as TJ Abraham, has welcomed the "Ghar Wapsi" campaign of RSS and other SanghParivar outfits as the objective of such a campaign can never win over "true Christians" and at best take away the "unwanted elements or parthenium weeds" among Christians.

"True Christians would be ready to give their lives for faith as was and is being demonstrated in Iraq and other countries, where fundamentalist forces are targeting Christians," he said addressing a press conference in Bengaluru on Saturday.

ICUF General Secretary Aida D’Cunha, Vice President SilvianNorohna, Fr Robin Victor D’Souza, Fr George Solomon, Rev Dr Manohar Chandra Prasad and Sr Amala and Sr Irudaya were among the other Christian leaders who were present at the press conference.

Abraham asserted that "Christians are not disturbed, perturbed or threatened by the so-called Ghar Wapsi or reconversions by meaningless and insignificant elements, who have no other contribution to society other than nuisance value."

The RSS vehemently speaks of and confuses the Indian population about conversion by force or allurement. Forcible conversion is something which is opposed by every civilized and well-meaning society and religion. True Christianity and Christians too oppose the same, Abraham said.

"We welcome the weeding away of such useless and unnecessary elements out of our faith. What Ghar Wapsi is achieving is actually what the true Christians were wanting but unable to do for long. So we would actually be happy if some more of these non-believers are removed or weeded out from our faith," he said adding: "Our challenge to the SanghParivaar is please take but you cannot take us, true Christians. If anyone makes an attempt to convert a true Christian, he would get converted and surely become one of us Christians."

The RSS vehemently speaks of and confuses the Indian population about conversion by force or allurement. Forcible conversion is something which is opposed by every civilized and well-meaning society and religion. True Christianity and Christians too oppose the same.
"The communal genes and the anti-secular attitude of the SanghPariwar and BJP exposed in letter and Spirit," he said.

In the wake of the formation of the Modi Government, doubts have arisen if Secularism is going to be alive in our society. Though the victory of Modi government is showcased as a victory for development, a belief has risen in the majority of the population in the country that the secular fabric of the country would be demolished in India, he said.

"A shameful proof and demonstration of the public belief that the BJP does not believe or tolerate secularism is evidenced from the Republic Day advertisement issued by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, which showed the Preamble page of the Constitution without the words “socialist” and “secular,” proving that the government was not “committed to secularism” and there was a sinister move to remove it from the Preamble of the Constitution.

"The Republic Day advertisement exposes in Letter (black & white) and the attacks on churches in Delhi, forcing the installation of the images of Goddess Saraswati in Christian schools and the GharWapsi in Spirit, the anti-secular lineage of the SanghPariwar and BJP," he said.

The ICUF strongly condemned the series of attacks against Churches in India and Delhi after the BJP government was formed at the Centre and predicted the downfall of the BJP leading to the restoration of secular ethos in the country.

Just as Christians hold their faith in high regard, others too hold their respective faith in high regard. If you become a christian you do not become a special person. When Christians can invite others to join our religion, don't others too have the same right? After all what do christians do? Christians claim their churches are being attacked. What about christian priests vying for power? what about the priest being murdered by christians themselves? Wt about infighting among christians in Bangalore and other locations. Why do kannada christians do not allow konkanis to celebrate mass in konkani?

Freedom to practice and propagate one's religion is a right guaranteed in our Constitution and every citizen is free to follow his or her faith, it is their personal choice. So conversions by Christian missionaries as well as `ghar wapasi` are entirely legal no need to enact any Anti Conversion Law IMO. Religion is and should remain a citizen's personal matter and state must not interfere in the same.

Mr. Jeevan, enact an anti-conversion law at the earliest, and see the outcome of that. If you want to undermine the prosperity of India and international relationship with the democratic countries of the world, do that in a hurry. Six States in India have that law and the world is not concerned with that but if that is enacted in India as a national law, India will be kicked out from the list of democratic countries of the world.

I don't understand the logic of educated people like you. Religion must be left alone for the individuals and that freedom must be guaranteed to everybody in a democratic country. If that freedom is hampered, and when the Federal Government is trying to be anyway lenient to any religion, that is a very dangerous policy.

The U.S. State Department and the politicians are well aware of the emerging religious fanaticism in India and please remember that the U.S. has some hold with the a vast majority of the countries of the world in their decision making. Mr. Modi paid a visit to Australia and the PM of Australia hugged Mr. Modi, but the PM is a very strong willed person. If India is making an anti-conversion law, he will show his displeasure very openly. I am not living in India but I am telling it very openly that any national anti-conversion law will be highly detrimental for India.

The idea of Ghar Wapsi is purely a political move of various Right wing groups. Modi and his Sangh Parivar are presiding over. In a democracy anybody above eighteen should have the right to change his/her religion. Government should not intervene. See, Democracy means that. Now conversions of adults too have been looked upon as criminal acts. That is not right.
T J Abraham is factually wrong when he says Aryans are from Afghanistan(i.e.Central Asia) Now beyond doubt it has been proved that the so called 'Aryans' came from the region covering East Europe to the borders of China.
Sangh sympathizers are writing new books arguing that they did not come from outside.
They seems to have become extremely insecure due to the Jihadi onslaught as well as missionary activities in India.
TJ Abraham, of course mocks the actions of the Sangh. It is alright that it is all 'politics'

One should note that the same Sangh is promoting Hinduism in the West. When a white Christian joins Hinduism there is happiness and jubilation and contentment. Same is not happening in other parts of the globe, say for example in Africa!
People have become cynical about the entire developments.

Largely religions have been founded in order to bring happiness to an individual, and not to a community or a nation. Religion has to be practiced and lived so that one attains eternal bliss.
Those who talk and preach any religion do they practice?
In that sense religion is a joke and those who are breaking their heads on it are jokers.
To talk about religion as an identity there is no place here!!

Even when St.Xavier and Tipu/Aurangazeb of these land killed, raped and converted people in inquisition, THEY NEVER harmed any commoner! even British, Portugese, Moguls looted this country with extra taxes and punishments, they remained HINDUs! and let others rule them over! Gandhi called us Cowards, rest thought Hindus are useless! but genuine AHIMSA-Nonviolence ways made sure this country remained SECULAR!!.... even tody, no one needs to wory that, anyone will come and kill you, behead you or forcibly convert you! @Vellano1 - You probably have never read the Bible and do not accept and believe in Jesus Christ. Jesus himself said in the parable of the sower (Matthew 13:1-9) "A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown. Whoever has ears, let them hear."

Vasudev bhat is no doubt a frog in its own well who has not seen other big wells and oceans...Only in India you have your faith.. but people of your faith are living and earning all around the world.. Just think about them also what will happen to them... No ghar wapasi but qabar wapasi...stupid comment ever I saw in this forum

If tomorrow RSS or its parivar offers me the post of PM or President of India and give me absolute power in return for renouncing my religion of Islam for ghar wapasi,,, my foot...no takers.. I believed in one God and worship one God and shall dye believing and worshiping one God only.. for I need eternal peace after my death..which is possible by worshiping and submitting to one God only.

    Mr.Bhat,

TJ Abraham is correct - those who are feigning to be Christians are fit to return to where they came from. If you are thinking that the number of Christians will dwindle because of 'Ghar-Vaapasi' scheme, you are day-dreaming.

Even before you think that such a thing will happen, you must go on a milestone of bringing back those who erred from a pure vegetarian eating habit to start with. At-least your own group will flourish.

Complete polarizing opinion (than yours) is expressed by TJ Abraham - no duress or whatsoever to stick on to Christianity - elements are free to move out. This liberty alone works as a magnet than your discriminating and divisive concept within one religion.

    Lidiya Madam,

You are correct, TJ abraham is rightly giving an open call to FEKU christians (if i may say so) to consider & embrace their original faith through Ghar wapsi programme.

I believe this is a good move by TJ, I feel our fellow parivar members work is half done..., no friction whatsoever...,
IAS evangelist Mr. Umashankar need some counselling from TJ..,
Let us maintain peace in the society & defeat the hate mongers agenda.

Millions of people have no Ghar at all then where is the question of GHAR WAPSI.

Ghar Wapsi is like Love jihad created by extreme religious thinkers.Rightly said OBAMA...India will not flourish if things in communal lines.Inclusive development is possible when NEW GHARS ARE BUILT.
