Mangalore, Jan 6: Sudden fire that erupted in a quarry at Aikala near Kinnigoli here gutted 11 huts on Friday January 5 afternoon.

The tragedy occurred on Friday afternoon when a spark of fire spread to the huts while cooking.  Though the residents and locals tried to extinguish fire, they were did not succeed.  By the time fire brigade personnel arrived from Moodbidri, 11 huts were completely charred.

The quarry workers of Bijapur origin were living in these huts. A total of 35 people from 15 families have now been rendered homeless.  Since there was hardly anyone present in the huts during the tragedy, no casualties have occurred.  It is said that a few children were within the close vicinity.  But all of them are safe and sound.

The Mulki police have registered a case in this regard.
