Belthangady, Feb 2: ‘Religion is like pure water. It tells us how to behave in life. Religion teaches us how to live a happy and contented life. It gives us a set of moral rules’ said Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala, Dr Veerendra Heggade on Sunday.

He was speaking in a meeting at ‘Dharmashree’ the headquarters of Sri Dharmasthala rural development programme in Dharmasthala. The meeting was also an interaction session with the Dharmadhikari where the youth from Deshpande Foundation participated.

150 youth from Deshpande foundation are on an expedition of 1800 kilometres from January 23 to February 7. They visit different places on their way including Haliyala, Belagavi, Manipal, Dharmasthala, Mysuru, Tumkur, Bengaluru etc. They meet esteemed persons during the trip and gain knowledge from interactions with them. Dharmasthala was one such stop on their way. The name of the expedition is LEAD.

“There is no much difference between the constitution of the nation and religion. How should a nation function, what it should do and what it should not do are the things you find in a constitution. The religious too tells us the same things but related to way of life of a person.” Dr Heggade said.

“We should not only follow our mentors, but also we should follow their principles. Why only we should adore their personality blindly, without following their teachings? Youth is the pride of nation. Let your behaviour be of high standard. You please gain knowledge from wherever you go. West too have good things in them. We fail to follow things from them and blame them for their culture. Why should we only cultivate bad habits from the West? We should not blame those cultures at all.” Dharmadhikari added.

“We all make mistakes. Mistakes should teach us how not to repeat then in futures. Let us repent, but not get depressed” Dr Heggade advised the youth.

The youth congratulated Dharmadhikari for receiving Padma Vibhushan from the union government recently.
