Abu Dhabi: KCO throwball, volleyball tourney gets good response

Abu Dhabi, Feb 2 :  A premier organization based in the city and a household name among the Mangalorean catholic community in  UAE, organized throw ball and volley ball tournaments on Friday January 23, at Abu Dhabi Indian School grounds.






















Wonderful weather added colour to the tournament making it a beautiful day.

Master of ceremony Vivek Serrao welcomed all the teams, sponsors, guests and audience and wished them a very good day and all success to the teams.

The guests present were Ronald Pinto (MD Hysnna International LLC), Natarajan (president, ISC), Leo Lavina Rodrigues (MD Al Mazroui and Chevy Automobiles Abu Dhabi), Sudhir Kumar Shetty (COO Global UAE Exchange) and Sarvotham Shetty (president, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha). They were honoured with flower bouquets by the KCO members.

Michael D’silva president, KCO Abu Dhabi in his welcome speech requested all the team members to play games with a sportsman spirit and wished them good luck. He also said that winning or losing is part of the game.

Guest of honour Sudhir Kumar Shetty (COO Global UAE Exchange) spoke on the occasion and requested all players to stick to the ethics of the game and have the matches played with a good sportsman spirit and have healthy competition.

The national anthem of UAE and India was sung by all.

Oath taking ceremony was led by Doreen KCO throw ball team member and soon after, all the guests released the balloons in the air and inaugurated the tournament.

The games were inaugurated thereafter. First the inauguration of the throw ball match was inaugurated by Lavina Rodrigues with other guests and team captains.

The matches were held throughout and all matches were held in a very healthy competitive way and professional manner. All the teams and referees were briefed prior to matches on ethics of the games. The matches were tight and close.

Men throwball teams:

Bunts Dubai, KCO Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, Mogaveers Dubai, Konkans Dubai, Mangalore Konkans, and Pacific Stars.

Women throwball teams:

Bunts Dubai, KCO Abu Dhabi, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha, Mogaveers Dubai, Konkans Dubai, Mangaluru Konkans, Specific Stars, Abu Dhabi Indian School and St Josephs Abu Dhabi.

Volley Ball Teams:

Saifah Chilly Willy, Karaval Milan A, Karaval Mila B and Indian Spikers

In the league matches Karnataka Sangha, Bunts Dubai, KCO and Konkans Dubai comfortably reached the semi-finals of the men’s teams while in the women’s teams: Konkans Dubai, Bunts Dubai, KCO and Mangalore Konkans reached semi-finals.

In the volley ball matches, Indian Spikers eventually managed to over come Karaval Milan A and won the match in the three sets 25-23, 18-25, 14-16.

However, in the finals, Bunts Dubai (Men) beat Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha while Bunts Dubai ladies beat Mangaluru Konkans comfortably and won the trophies.

In a colorful prize distribution ceremony trophies and medals were given to the champions and runner up teams. Best individual performers were awarded trophies.

Sujit – best striker (Indian Spikers) – volley ball
Stanely – best all rounder (Karaval Milan A) – volley ball
Shashi Lekha – best striker (Bunts Dubai) women throwball
Jane – best all rounder (Mangaluru Konkans) women throwball
Deepak - best striker (Bunts Dubai) men throwball
Dinraj – best all-rounder (Bunts Dubai) men throwball

Match officials were honored with mementos for their service.

Event concluded with a vote of thanks by Canute Pinto KCO The day long event was compered by Vivek Serrao who displayed incredible charm and poise. The entire day went off amidst the din and the excitement of the players and the spectators.
