Bahrain: Young talents win hearts at Konkani Kutam annual competitions

Bahrain, Feb 2: The Annual Konkani Singing and Elocution Competitions of Konkani Kutam, Bahrain were held on Friday, January 30 at the Papillion Restaurant auditorium. In its endeavour to promote Konkani language among children in Bahrain, Konkani Kutam has been organizing the competitions for the last 14 years.

'Speak Konkani and save Konkani' (Konkani ulaiani Konkani urai) was the message by Henry D’Almeida in his opening address. As many as 45 children in the age group of 4 to 18 years participated in the competitions which started at 5:30 pm. The competition comprised three categories of 4 to 8 years, 8 to 12 years and 12 to 18 years.

Age group 8 to 12 years

Age group 12 to 18 years

III prize - Alvia Treeza Mendonca

Winners were given away prizes and trophies. Consolation prizes were given to all participants. The judges for singing competition were Richard Pais, Swibert Mascarenhas and Menino Fernandes. Judges for elocution competition were Philip D’Mello, Joseph Andrade and Max Sequeira.

Two comedy skits were presented by Stany D’Souza, Sujay Pinto, George Menezes, Avinash Fernandes and Anette Bennies. A buffet dinner was provided by Pappilon Restaurant to everyone present.

John D’Souza compered the programme and Ronald Fernandes delivered the vote of thanks.
