Mangaluru: Bishop condemns Delhi church attack, demands action

Daijiworld Media Network-Mangaluru (RJP)

Mangaluru, Feb 3: Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangaluru has condemned the church attack in Delhi and has demanded stern action against the attackers.

Dr Aloysius D’Souza has said that measures should be taken so that such incidents do not take place again in the future.

In a statement the bishop has said “It is sad to note that five such incidents happened in a span of 2 months. It is a humiliation for God as well as human beings where the holy host was touched. The union and state governments should take initiatives to stop such incidents where sentiments of Christians are hurt.”

St Alphonsa's church in Vasanth Kunj area of South Delhi was vandalised on Monday, February 2, the fifth such incident since December 2014.

The unidentified people had ransacked the sacristy cupboards, opened the tabernacle and took the ciborium and emptied it by putting the hosts on the table.

This is religious sentiments! suppose if a Hindu temple is attacked how u feel are u not hurt. in the same way if any fanatics attacks church we feel hurt. The Govt elected by People for the protection and safety of the citizens irrespective of any community one belongs. So I am proud to be Indian but not only me everyone condemns such a attack on place of worship. India is a democratic secular country and everyone has the right to worship God according one's religion one belongs. We are human beings and living in 21st century. Muslim country Doha Qatar is a rich and prosperous country. People come not only from India but all over the world for the better prospects and India is one of the leading population working here including all religions. So the Expatriate Indians helping for the better prospects of families back in India. So Believe me here there is a great protection for people and the place of worship and work from the Govt. Police always protecting the citizens and the place of worship as well as the Expatriates. There is religious tolerance and people are happy and peaceful from all walks of life to work here. Also one can see most of the Gulf countries are prospering and developing fast.

A very learned man of India has said that 21st century religion going to be politics. True religion wipes the tears on the cheeks of the poor and oppressed. That job in 21st century will be done by benevolent politicians. So it is time for the leadership in the Catholic Church to embrace politics and take sides. Today our votes don’t count in the Indian political scenario. The day CBCI begins to guide the Catholic community and tell who fits into our values and who to vote that day onwards no Church will be vandalized. No more State and Church separate mentality fits into Indian context where we are only 2%. It is okay for Christian countries if they want to practice this thought. We have to learn from our RSS brothers and sisters how to be active in politics and still practice our faith as an organization.

God is slow to anger and abounding in Mercy, that doesn't mean that God will not punish the guilty who do not repent and desist from such heinous acts. It is time that Modi realises that there is no need for a 57" chest to take courage to apprehend the culprits and stem the rot. Dear Bishop we all the faithful unite with u and condemn such a heinous attack on Churches Why always targeting the Christians! and the churches? what they will gain on the contrary they loose . If we see there is a lot of contributions from Christianity for the development of India. There should be justice for everyone belonging to all faiths. All the developing countries like India depend upon developed Christian countries like America UK and Australia among the few for the advance technology /machinery etc. To beg for advanced technology Govt. wants America's help which is a Christian country, but then why Christian's churches here attacked . To get the best education people want all the children to go to convent schools which is run by Christians and learn in foreign countries like USA, UK, Australia etc.. Why the people are not mature enough to understand this? Grow up people, and have wisdom, knowledge and progress.

In Delhi, Christian community is living same like in Pakistan.People should think here by damaging the church /Mosque /temple property they will gain nothing,Instead they will invite guilty in them throughout their life.No matter whose religion it is, it is a place of worship.Destroying the place which is purely dedicated to GOD,is a devils work.It will bring negative fame for some time but undoubtedly result in own destruction in the long run.People are forgetting that India is a secular country and all faiths are having their liberty to practice their respective religion. Many anti element groups take political advantage and enter into heinous acts. Definitely this will tarnish the image of the government which is in power and also project our brethren insecure complexity to the outer world. We should all remember that we need blessings not curse.

Property, whether private or public, need to be respected since abuse is not a civil liberty in any civilized country.
Christians are a mild behaviored community and seldom resort to violence when harmed. May be this taken by the aggressor as a meek submission to their tactics.
Perseverance and prayers are the tools used by our community since long whenever there was persecution. Let us lift up a silent prayer everyday for all those who do not see 'God' in the visible things that are damaged and sacrilege. May our good Lord bless them with Solomon's wisdom to see the good work that the church and other Christian institutions are providing and let them join these efforts of serving the poor and needy.

Mr martin, you seem to suggest that BJP is behind all these church attacks. in the case of Dehli, minority Christians would in all likelihood not vote the BJP. please note that all these attacks are happening at the time of run up to elections. It would not benefit BJP in consolidating votes of Hindus by doing such acts. however in Karnataka it does seem that some radical elements among Hindus were behind such attacks. because there were lot of rumors flying around that " new life" an organisation was working towards converting Hindus into Christians. you say because of these attack BJP was thrown to dust bin in Karnataka. does that mean before the elections minorities were voting BJP?. if the Church attack were the cause of BJP getting dumped in Karnataka more so in coastal Karnataka, then it must be the Hindus who voted against the BJP for attacking the churches. there might be a small increase in voting percentages of the minorities against the back of the church attacks but that may not be significant reason. The real cause of BJPs downfall in karnataka according to me was , the infighting within BJP, Yedyurappa and Sriramulu coming out of BJP, Corruption cases against BJP, and the infamous blue film watching by the blue boys.

first of all why do you think everything points out to BJP CM! dude, everybody knows, christians dont vote for BJP and they wont get benefitted with such act, when they are in power, to say the least! It only has adverse affects, and those secular Hindus, who want peace and harmony and voted BJP will also NOW STOP VOTING IT! besides, world over it gives a wrong signal where christians are majority! You think one delhi election is that important for them?

All of these happens before a election and Congress invariably wins..like in sept 2008, congress romped home in 2009! ..

infact few of church vandalisation in south canara was done by christian youth themselves.. One where few youth just cut banana plants of church ground! just see news archives of daiji!

    two things, congress always employed!

When there is a scam or some nasty thing unfolding - There would be a Bomb attack or explosion - just to deviate the media and they discuss ONLY TERRORISM!

Second, when there is a election - there will be lot many CHURCH attack - so that 2% christians react and 14% muslims take note of it!... BJP only loses its popularity, rather than gaining anything out of this news! think about it !

They are Jayson Verghese (23), Vijit Sunny Rozario (21), Araki Alfred (20), Roshan Cutinho (26), all from Nityadhar Nagar and Ronald Roshan (22), a resident of Kuttar Prakash Nagar. They were produced in the court on Wednesday."

If people are united and for each other, no need of security anywhere.....
Such cases let law take care...and faithful keep low profile. Sometimes media does more too...now a days everything becomes either communal or serious as the political outfits clearly knows of mindset of people and how to play. I am sure none of the people around would support such acts but stand against it.
    Keep calm....

Before a month another church was attacked, and this is a second incident . Yesterday home minister stated he ordered police inquiry.IF attack would to his home or relatives home uptill now culprits would have been caught. THE govt is take such incidents as casually and not punishing culprits properly under law and criminal act of land. This partition attitude of govt. should condemned by all.

..It is pity that without concluding proper investigation it is termed as attack..police dept on record said its a case of attempted robbery..people are caught in previous incidents have no connection with any group..If so, then almost every month thieves break into temples that can also be termed as attack..even if its attack then it will stop as soon as election ends..and the people who ever involved might have already succeeded by defaming Govt..CCTV cameras wont prevent theft/attack it can only record the incident..easy solution will be, fix responsibility on police dept..if any untoward incidents happens then it must impact the local police on their service,promotions,increments..it may bring the crime under control..

Who are these unwanted elements in our society, they are not human beings, they are wild animals. Please just a good pray that God sent his fitting blessing on these monsters, then should come in the open and say what curse they got from God. Just keep on praying for the good of our church

It is paramount that all churches have CCTV placed at strategic locations and ensure that they work efficiently throughout.Ample protective mechanism should also be in place for the priests and nuns. These anti social elements attack in groups and hide in rat holes before they resurface.Justice is always a forlorn hope and almost denied for minorities.

Delhi police must provide proper security to all the places of worship. Whosoever is the culprit, they should be caught and punishment for such attacks shall be exemplary, since it is nothing short of treason. The investigating agencies should be given a free-hand without any political interference and no religious leader should support whoever has been found guilty.

God is active and alive. What you sow, so shall you reap.
