Bengaluru: Harassed by ragging, nursing student attempts suicide

Bengaluru, Feb 4: A student studying in a nursing college located near K R Puram in the city had attempted suicide supposedly because of ragging by fellow students. He had tried to end his life by hanging himself. The incident came to life with some delay.

Thamaraichelvan (18) from Tamil Nadu, who attempted suicide, is being treated at Manipal Hospital here. His parents, in a complaint filed in the police station, said their son was pushed to this situation by other students who ragged him.

K R Puram police said they came to know during the questioning that Thamaraichelvan and some other students had a fight over a laptop. They said they have taken four nursing students into custody in this connection for questioning.

It is learnt that some collegemates had asked Thamaraichelvan to contribute Rs 4,000 for buying laptop, but he refused. He was ragged thereafter. Frustrated, Thamaraichelvan attempted suicide by hanging himself at his hostel room, but some students came to his rescue and transported him to hospital, it is learnt.
