Beltangady, Feb 5: Two persons travelling in a motor bike fell into a pond at around 11 pm on Tuesday, February 3 near Odeelu in Maddadka in the taluk and drowned.

The deceased have been identified as Vishwanath alias Sundar Naik (26), son of Dogu Naik from Bendelpadavu House in Thenka Yedapadavu near Moodbidri, and Madhusudan (24), son of Koosappa Naik from Murattakody House in Uruvalu village.

Madhusudan was a second year MSc degree student at Ujire SDM Postgraduate college.

Reportedly, the two were either going to or returning from the annual car festival of Lord Mahalingeshwara Temple at Odeelu in Padangady village. Sundar was riding the motor bike and moving on Kinnigoly-Padangady road. Madhusudan was the pillion rider.

At the road bend near the temple, Sundar was suddenly caught unawares when a vehicle approached his vehicle unexpectedly from the opposite direction. He lost control over the vehicle, after which the vehicle skidded, and both he and pillion rider fell into the pond located by the roadside. Locals worked with fire brigade personnel and police till late night and retrieved their bodies.

A person named Prabhakar Shetty was coming to temple when he suddenly heard shouts for help from inside the pool. He saw that two persons were drowning. People residing in neighbouring houses also heard the cries. However, by the time they could muster help, both the youngsters had drowned.

bring the corporator of that area and put him inside the pond and close it. It could be an alarm to other corporators , a lesson to this corporator who never bothered about this dangerous pond which was close to the road and also a memory for these 2 youths. 2 young lives gone before blooming.
