Mangaluru: Murder attempt near Shaktinagar cross - four held

Mangaluru, Feb 5: In connection with an incident in which an attempt was made on the life of Dayanand on the night of January 28 near Inchara Bar and Restaurant near Shaktinagara Cross in Kulshekhar in the city, Kadri police have arrested four persons. They are Varun Poojary (24) from Neermarga, Deekshit (23) from Saripalla, Rakesh (28) from Kavoor, and Kishore (24), a resident of Vamanjoor. Kadri police said they are looking for two more accused.

On being produced in court, all the four arrested persons were remanded to judicial custody.

It is said that all the four accused face murder attempt cases filed against them in the past. Varun Poojary faces four cases in Urwa, Pandeshwar, and Panambur police stations, while Kishore is named in five cases. Deekshit is involved with a case filed in Barke police station, while Rakesh has been accused of stabbing a scraps dealer relating to Ulaibettu disturbances.

Dayanand had been attacked with a knife at around 10 pm on January 28, when he was coming out from the above bar and restaurant after having dinner in the company of relatives, Lokesh and Preethesh.

Investigations are continuing under the leadership of Kadri police inspector, T D Nagaraj, and sub-inspector, Rafique.
