2 Vatican officials denied visa for Bengaluru meet, claims Catholic church

Bengaluru, Feb 5 (DHNS): The Catholic church today alleged that two key Vatican officials who were to address the 27th national assembly of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI) in Bengaluru which began on February 3 had been denied visa.

Cardinal Oswald Gracias, CCBI president, said the 140 bishops from across the world are attending the assembly that commenced on Tuesday.

Archbishop Arthur Roche, Secretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, and Archbishop Protase Rugambwa,

President of Pontifical Mission Societies and Adjunct Secretary to the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples, were key resource persons for the week-long conference.

CCBI is now planning to hold the session in which the two officials were scheduled to participate through video conferencing.

Though the two officials had applied for visa in mid-December, their applications were kept pending till the last minute and rejected, a CCBI statement said.

Sources claimed that even after the intervention by Vatican's Secretary of State office the visa applications were kept pending.

we were freed from white in 1947, we should stop defending the foreigners. They have no interest in well being of people of this country. We have seen what IAS Evangelist did. Idea is to destabilize the system, which we should not allow. We have seen what Vatican did in Africa... we Indians should not fall for the same trap. And I reiterate, we should never defend foreigners coz they have no interest in India's well being, instead they just want to control people in the name of religion. All such people should be avoided. including Babas and mullahs

Mr. Modi has worked very hard to attract the foreigners to visit India through the "Visa on arrival" program which was extended to many countries of the east and west.

But deliberately refusing visa to two delegates from Vatican who were visiting India for attending the religious conference.

Pure anti-Christian attitude is now revealed of the BJP Government.

Sir, the Consul knew very affirmatively that they were going for a religious conference and they are the topmost in their religious hierarchy. Did they apply in a hurry, they applied in the month of December, and the Indian mission had the courtesy to let know if there were any error in the application form.

For heaven's sake, please remember that the readers of the Daijiworld are not street people: but they are educated and may be far knowledgeable than your great Prime Minister Mr. Modi and his too smart political associates. Sources in the ministry of external affairs said the bishops did not have the Vatican passports. "All others coming as representatives of the Vatican were issued visas. The two had applied like any other passport holders. The MEA denied them visas on the advice of the home ministry," said a source.

    Professor of half truths
Vatican is an independent state within Rome city
It has slightly over 900 population.
Residents carry passports of their country of origin PLUS a diplomatic passport issued by the Vatican State
This diplomatic passport entitles the holder to travel to any country which Vatican has diplomatic relationship (including India)
Many except the above two from Vatican have entered India for this conference.
Unfortunately only two have been denied visa because they DID NOT carry diplomatic passports with them
They applied for Indian Visa with passports of their country of origin which got rejected.
DON'T MAKE ISSUE OF NON ISSUE
They were not refused visas because they were Christians or they were from Vatican. If that was the case other priests from Vatican would not have come to India to take part in the conference.

if not completed 2 years in UAE, maximum 10 days after getting approval from New Delhi

Tourist visa: 3 - 5 working days maximum:

This is called digging one's own grave or hitting an ax at your own leg.

BJP will understand the intensity of this when Baba Ramdev will be denied entry to his Scottish Island or all other Swamis who are storming US/Europe on preaching assignments !

@ Lydia, Swamis like Sri Sri Ravishankar etc are always invited by other nations and they dont generally apply for visas. But India do not invite any catholic priest from outside India as we ourselves have got good catholic preachers inside India itself. Please understand.

    Rajiv,

Irrespective of one gets an invitation to visit a country or not, visa is mandatory. Do you think Cricket players, Film stars go abroad to perform with just an invitation in hand, leaving their Passport at home ? Their visa is availed well before their travel.

No visa practice is applicable only when two or more countries have free entry pact between them. For example India/Nepal or members of GCC nationals who move about within group countries, as if we go to different places within India.

Many countries get visa on arrival at entry points. Citizens of such countries need not apply for a visa in advance but compulsorily exit before their visa expires.

You are too quick to comment without reading this news clip :

Read again (I think message is very clear) :
Though the two officials had applied for visa in mid-December, their applications were kept pending till the last minute and rejected, a CCBI statement said.

Please dont act dumb and illiterate... the 140 others are Indian Bishops.... who are all INDIANS and do not need visas.
I am aware of Visas denied to Church officials who had to come for an official visit in the last three months. This is not the first incident.

indian government is the officials who take care of the visa process . if they think the application was not appropriate then its up to them to decide whther to give visa or not . so whats the big issue . you guys were so happy when a citizen of india and a CM of a state was not given Visa . Now why are people speaking behalf of italy. if they have a problem let them sort it with the indian government . simple

    dear sid, mangalore
If so, let deny on spot, why to keep pending..to check with RSS, BD, BJP....
There was a valid reason at the time for Modi's denial....
with your this type of mindset, you do not achieve anything but loose greatly..
All these symptoms only shows that India is heading on the ways of Afghanistan/ Pakistan.....
