Udupi, Jan 9: A pedestrian was killed after being knocked down by a speeding private bus in the city bus stand here on Tuesday January 9 morning.

The deceased has been identified as Uday (30), a resident of Harasinakanu Shedi near Hebri here.  He was waiting for bus in the city bus stand on Tuesday morning, when "Ganesh Travels" bus coming from Manipal hit him.  As a result, he sustained serious injuries and breathed his last on the spot.

It is said that the accident was the result of reckless driving by the bus driver.  The locals said that it is a common scene in the city bus stand that buses come in on high speed without even bothering about passenger waiting for buses in the bus stand.  City bus stand is filled with daily-wage labourers in the morning and evening.  When the buses come in sounding horn, most of them run helter-skelter in order to protect themselves.

The town police have registered a case against the bus driver in this regard.
