Mangaluru, Feb 6: In a tragic incident, Sr Stella Pais (63), who celebrated her 62nd birthday in the company of friends and relatives on Wednesday February 4, ended her life at her residence in the quarters of Concetta Hospital Kinnigoli the next day, Thursday February 5.

Sr Stella hailed from Paladka, and had served in different convents under Kinnigoli church. She was leading a retired life at the said quarters. On Wednesday, she cheerfully celebrated her birthday along with her mother, church staff, hospital staff, etc.

A complaint filed in Mulky police station states that Sr Stella might have chosen to end her life as she was suffering from mental depression.

It is said that Sr Stella Pais was suffering from cancer because of which she was depressed. She went to the church, offered special prayer, and went to the room in the hospital meant for senior citizens, and hanged herself from a window by using nylon rope.

Her body was handed over to her relatives after conducting postmortem at the government hospital in Karnad, Mulky. Sr Stella had innumerable fans, all of whom shed tears at the news of her unnatural death.

Funeral cortege leaves Madeleine Convent to Immaculate Conception Church, Mulky on Friday February 6 at 2.30 pm. Prayer service for the departed will be from 3 to 4 pm and the funeral service with the holy Eucharist will be held at 4 pm.

Lets not judge the manner in which she died. It is easy to preach about how Religious should live and die. But they too are human. My prayer goes out to my Lord Jesus to look upon her mercifully and grant her a place in His kingdom.

Religious people live for others. They are lonely internally. They may be bold and smiling outwardly, internally many of them are depressed, especially when they are old.The society must love them and care for them.We must pray for them.

The Lord loves her and has taken her in His arms, for she will have asked forgiveness,in that dark moment. As for us, we know that sickness is not of His kingdom and we can command it to leave us in the precious name of Jesus, thanking the Father for the completed work f Christ. Yes, we will face persecutions, but sickness is not His will. His will is life, and life to the fullest, so brethren, whatever you are facing even during your medications/surgery, ask God for healing and you will see manifestations. Be blessed.

Condolence message from Sr.Philomena DSouza. FMA

I have known Sr. Stella from my childhood, as we grew up in the same village and I have always known her to be simple, warm, kind-hearted and a gentle soul.  True to her name “Stella” she was like a star, a guiding light not just to her family, but to all who knew her. Even when I met her in last October, she was very much aware that she had cancer, yet the twinkle in her eyes was still there. She was still caring and enquiring about everyone else.  So her passing away is like a bolt out of blue for all of us.  I guess she must have been going through so much mental agony that she was unable to express...  It is indeed difficult for us to understand how mental depression can destroy a person.  I strongly believe that a life-time of goodness and service can never be erased from the sight of God and God will abundantly reward this good and faithful servant with fullness of life and love.  We can be certain Sr. Stella is finally enjoying the peace and freedom that her soul so much longed for.  Now that she has gone before us, may be we should ask Sr. Stella to intercede for us especially when we go through mental stress and pain. She can and she will surely help us.  My heart goes out to Sr. Stella’s mother, Christinebai, who had already lost her youngest daughter Flora, 9 years ago with a sudden death, and now, the pain of losing the eldest daughter, Sr. Stella will be truly unbearable to her.  My heart goes out to Sr. Stella’s siblings and the Bethany Sisters as they struggle to cope with this pain and loss. From her place in heaven may Sr. Stella show us the way!                                                               - Sr. Philomena D’Souza fma, Mumbai (Murkoth Palke)

Sr Stella BS gave her best to the church and to the society as she had lot of energy for the mission of love. She did it so well till the end until she fell sick and went to her eternal reward. Her cheerfullness in service, love for the people and the capacity to meet and listen to them I will remember always. May her soul rest in peace. May Jesus console the sorrowful family and the Sisters.
