Mysuru: Cellphone explosion rips part of teenager's face

Mysuru, Feb 6 (DHNS): A youth suffered grievous burns and a part of his face was ripped apart when his cellphone exploded in the city.

Seetharam (18), a daily wager from Bihar, worked along with his parents at an under-construction building near Bannimantap on Mysuru-Bengaluru road.

The youth was resting in a makeshift tent near the construction site on Tuesday evening when he got a call on his Karbonn cellphone which was put on charge. The moment he answered the call, the phone exploded.

The impact of the blast was such that the lower part of his face was ripped apart, causing heavy bleeding and disfigurement. Fellow workers found him in a pool of blood. Incidentally, Seetharam’s parents also use the cellphones of the same make.

A private ambulance was summoned to the spot and the injured youth was shifted to JSS Hospital on MG road. Sources described his condition as critical.

However, a senior doctor in the hospital said the youth is not critical but is under treatment at the dedicated intensive care unit (ICU) for burns victims. He is being treated by a plastic surgeon as his face has to be completely redone, he added.

The jurisdictional NR police, who learnt about the incident from the locals and media reports, rushed to the hospital. However, no complaint has been lodged in this regard.
