Mangaluru, Feb 7: Through a judgment, the third judicial magistrate (first class) court here has awarded two and half years of simple imprisonment to three persons on a case relating to harassing a woman employee at workplace. They also have been fined Rs 10,000 each in this case.
Manager of the shop concerned, Loy D'Souza (30), and employees, Puneeth Shettigar and Ashok Crasta, were found guilty of charges levelled against them.
The complainant, a 24-year-old woman working in a shop near Milagres Centre in the city, had accused manager of the shop, Loy D'Souza from Bajal, Puneeth Shettigar from Yeyyady, and Ashjok Crasta from Talapady, of harassing her and mentally distressing her by passing snide remarks at her on an ongoing basis.
On the basis of the said complaint filed in the women's police station here police circle inspector, Kalavathi, investigated the matter and filed charge sheet. Judge of the court, Undi Manjula Shivappa, who presided over the hearings in the case, imposed the above sentences and fine under section 354, 506, and 509 of Indian Penal Code. Out of the fine collected, a sum of Rs 6,000 has been ordered to be disbursed to the aggrieved woman.
The prosecution was represented by assistant public prosecutor, Mohan Kumar B, in the case.
