Udupi, Feb 7: In an incident which occurred near Katapadi-Moodbettu cross on national highway 66, a pedestrian, who was crossing the road, got hit by a speeding vehicle late night on Thursday February 5.The man had suffered multiple injuries in the accident, and died in a hospital later.

The vehicle involved with this accident, which continued its run even after the accident, remains unidentified as of now.

Balakrishna Hegde (65) from Mandarthi Heggunje in Kundapur taluk, was the unfortunate victim of this accident. He was returning to Moodabettu after attending a programme in the residence of a relative along with his son-in-law, Sunil R Shetty, when the accident occurred.

Hegde has left behind wife, a son, and two daughters.

Sunil Shetty had already reached the other side of the road, and Balakrishna Hegde, who was following him, was halfway down the road, when the killer vehicle suddenly appeared from nowhere and knocked him down. Balrkrishna Hegde was provided treatment in a private hospital at Udupi immediately, and then admitted into KMC Hospital Manipal, where he passed away around midnight.

A case stands registered in Kaup police station relating to this accident.
