Mangaluru, Feb 8: Janardana Bajal (64), one of the top-rated Yakshagana artistes in Tenku Tittu style, breathed his last at his residence in Manjeshwar, Kasargod on Saturday February 7, after a brief illness. He is survived by wife, two sons, and four daughters.

Bajal had chosen Yakshagana field to carve out a future, after having been inspired by Bolara Narayana Shetty. He was adept in different kinds of roles, jester, king, and supportive roles. He entered the field of art when he was 18, and served the field for over four and half decades through different troupes. He had total command over both Kannada and Tulu languages, and therefore, was known for his style of dialogue delivery.

Janardana had won several awards and honours including the Dr G Shankar Family Trust honour. He was also feted in Mumbai. Various Yakshagana stalwats including Udupi Yakshagana Kalaranga president, Tallur Shivaram Shetty, and secretary,Murali Kadekar, have grieved his untimely death.
