Bengaluru: Dr Veerendra Heggade credits VHP for bringing equality in temples

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Feb 9: 'Due to the undying efforts of Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), we have been able to achieve equality among temples. Narrow-minded thoughts of the past have been done away with,' said Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari, Dr D Veerendra Heggade.

Addressing the huge gathering of Virat Hindu Samajotsava held at National College ground here on Sunday February 8, he said that the dream of united India could be realized because of the concerted efforts of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel. 'We have to grow out of the our selfish thinking, and break down the barriers we have surrounded ourselves with. During the last 50 years, VHP has worked to break the shackles of narrow-mindedness,' he felt. Dr Heggade also acknowledged the need for setting up separate cremation grounds for Hindus. 'Everyone should have a sense of pride and reverence towards his or her own religion. At the same time, there is a need for all of us to stay united. VHP has been involved with the task of building a great society,' he hailed.

The Samajotsava was initiated by offering puja to cow in traditional manner. Union minister, Anant Kumar, former deputy chief minister, R Ashok, Shobha Karandlaje and Abdul Azeem participated in the programme.

VHP south province president, M B Puranik, who delivered introductory address, strongly felt that it was wrong on the part of the concerned to bar the entry of Pravinbhai Togadia into the city during the Samajotsava. 'Togadia has made huge sacrifices and devoted his entire life for the sake of Hinduism. Let us come together and condemn the forces which restrained him from taking part in the programme,' he said.

BJP leaders who spoke on the occasion before the Samajotsav, launched verbal tirade against the state government, deriding it as a wretched administration. Anant Kumar criticized the state government for its single-minded approach of minority appeasement. Kumar also tongue-lashed the government for barring entry of Togadia into the city, terming this step as chief minister, Siddaramaiah's style of enforcing a state of undeclared emergency. He said that the government has been trying to crush religious freedom through its measures.

Shobha Karandlaje also expressed resentment at the state government, blaming it of supporting acts of terrorism. She said Togadia had never delivered any inflammatory addresses so far, and accused the government of subduing those who are strongly patriotic.

R Ashok also charged the state government of appeasing minorities and indulging in vote bank politics. He said that the state government has been blatant in calling upon the citizens to help terrorists from Bhatkal. He added that the government has been trying to suppress Hindus, and warned that it will face backlash for its own wrong policies soon.

Alright, So we work to break up the hindu structure and framework. We shall make the role of a pujari as a job and anyone who can chant bajans qualify and work it.
At the end what do we call them 'Father' ?. Should we also open the temple in such a way that we were our footware inside?, isn't it silly to leave it outside and have the token system for it ? Huh!?

    Oh,
Many are commenting on social equality. Everyone want to eat together, perform pooja at temple.
Comon, all of you discard all your cast base free goodies from the government, tell no to reservations, tell no to special scholarshipa, tell no to preferential govt. jobs, tell no to subsidised fees for any job application forms.. , quit eating non-vegetarian food, quit drinking, start bathing at dawn, etc etc, then come and ask for performing Pooja or being equal to Brahmins.
PS. i am not a Brahmin.

Dont show your arrogance rather i would say foolishness. There were many practicing Hindus who had complained about some of the plaguing issues in Hinduism like made snaana, pankthibedha, superstition etc. Did the Samajothsava discuss such issues?. How do you think you can bring unity amongst hindus. by sloganeering?. Oliver was right when he said that the caste system which is plaguing Hinduism can be removed by making inter caste marriages and bring homogeneity. stick to the issue, than bothering about who complained on this issue. why Samajothsava after samajothsa feels shy of taking these subject. Samajothsava is being reduced to only minority bashing.

Very good gathering of all Hindu's. If the effort was to free India from corruption and crimes like rape and murder would have been really appreciated. But gathering in the name of Religion can only further divide India .

Regarding " Equality in temples", would any of the VHP's eat " Prasadam" if served by hand by one of the Schedule Caste Temple priest ?

    Dear friends
More than Hindu Samajotsava, it is nothing other than BJP Election rally.
During my student/teenage days i had friends from all the religions and castes, but still we played together, ate together, laughed together. There was no thought like he Hindu or he is Christian or he is Muslim or from Upper caste or lower caste, still we were together in our happiness and grief. We loved to be together. Why these people are dividing us now by putting hatred between us?.
Lets understand the reality my friends.

Can we see any lower caste people as priest in our temples ? No, Then what equality we are talking about !! But still we should appreciate the changes in recent years among Hindus !! Participating in Hindu Samajostava is not a crime. Only thing we should not speak against other religions. If people like Virendra Hegde participate and guide our young people it is good for our society.... !!

Dear India First…. You can’t see any priest from lower caste in any Hindu Temple just because we have caste based occupation when it comes to performing pooja….. Noble job has been assigned to Brahmins because they learn Vedas and rituals better than anybody else…. Even few caste are assigned to worship “Deyva or Bhootas” like ‘Koti Chennaya” in any Garadi to be worshiped by any Poojary by caste only. Kordabbu Deyva worshiped by any “Mukhaari” by caste only. So, we have very highly cultured rituals in Hindu tradition which is not known to people like you I believe…… I can construct sophisticated temple if I want but we need a person who knows Vedas to perform pooja not me just because I construct the temple!!!!

    Sachidanand Shetty, Mundkur/Dubai,

I fully agree with you that, one should know rituals, vedas and mantras to do poojas in our temples. My question is can a lower caste person learn all these and become a temple priest ?? The day all Hindus say yes we can tell we have 100 percent equality in our religion.

    Dear Mr.Sachidanand Shetty,
Do you think only Brahmins learn Vedas? Why one has to learn Vedas to make pujas. Certain Manthars which is delivered at the time of puja can be learnt any body. More than one occasion I have seen Child Archakas performing pujas. What Vedas these boys have studied? Instead of bringing equality among the people of the religion your intention is continue the cast system.

Dr Veerendra Heggade.. .good sign that your fellows didnot involve in hate speech....That means if govt takes strict action even the worst criminal would abide by it....But being at a respectable position you should have advised Vhp program co-ordinator from airing togadia speech coz it was against decision of court and law...keeping mum on issues like this will embolden anti national forces who doesnt have respect for neither court nor law in the country...
Secondly is casteism eradicated...I would say nay...When udupi mutt seer is present he knows what happens in the name of pankti beda at udupi mutt...Secondly almost most of the temple of tulunadu is lead by brahmins...
