Bengaluru: Swine flu claims more lives in state


Bengaluru, Feb 10(DHNS):Two more H1N1 (swine flu) deaths were reported from Bengaluru on Monday, February 9.

Though Manav, a resident of Koramangala and Muthulakshmi of Mahalakshmi Layout had died in the last week of January, the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Health department confirmed that the two had died of swine flu only on Monday.

The officials said that Muthulakshmi, who was seeking treatment at Chord Road Hospital died on January 26 and Manav died at Manipal Hospital on January 31.

“The cause of death of these two were confirmed only on Monday by our medical health officers. A total of six positive cases have been reported in Palike limits out of which two patients have died,” said a health official from the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike.

However, during an emergency meeting of the State Health department held on Monday, it was told that as many as 54 positive cases had been recorded within the Palike limits till now.

Dr M Rajini, District Health Officer (DHO), Bengaluru Urban, said that five deaths had been so far reported in the district. Meanwhile, there have been reports of death and fresh H1N1 cases in other parts of the State.
Across the State

Gangadharaiah Veeraiah Hiremutt ( 41) from Asundi village who was seeking treatment at Dharwad has died.

About five cases of H1N1 infection have come to light in Tumakuru district and all the patients have recovered, according to District Health Officer Dr Rajini.

With this, the total toll of positive cases has gone up to 113 and death toll to eight in state.

Similarly, Sunandamma from Bagepalli and Pramilamma from Gadibande, Chikkaballapur have been confirmed of contracting H1N1 flu. They are currently taking treatment in Bengaluru and doctors have said that the two women have recovered.

Meanwhile, Health Minister U?T?Khader has said that five hi-tech labs to conduct diagostic tests for swine flu would be set up in the State at cost of Rs 2.5 crore.

He said that people need not panic about H1N1 and the Health department had been taking all measures to prevent the spread of the virus.

    I think our State Govt is busy at filing civil and criminal cases against VHP Leaders than controlling Swine flu…. Moreover they can’t order for culling of pigs having deceases too since it will back fire them drastically!!!!
