Udupi, Feb 10: A person, who had come to his native place to take part in the final rites of his mother who died recently, committed suicide at Marne within Manipal police station limits. This fact came to light on Sunday February 8.

Harish Shetty (31), who was running hotel business at Bengaluru, had come home to take part in the funeral and other rites of his deceased mother. He had suddenly gone missing since February 6, and searches had not yielded any fruits. On Sunday, his body was found from a well in Marne village.

A report filed in the police station has expressed opinion that Harish appeared to have tried to commit suicide by hanging himself from a nylon rope, the other end of which was tied to the iron rod placed across the well. It is guessed that he would have fallen down after the rope snapped under his weight, and he fell into the water from considerable height, due to which he drowned.
