Bengaluru: Shiradi Ghat Stretch to take much longer to open

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru (SP)

Bengaluru, Feb 11: The expectations of the people to be able to use repaired stretch of Shiradi Ghat section of national highway 75 during this year's rainy season is sure to be belied. The road will take much longer to be ready for use.

This became clear in the reply provided by PWD minister, Dr H C Mahadevappa, to a question raised by JDS MLA, M Srinivas. 'The 26 km stretch of Shiradi Ghat road will be developed in two phases of 13 km each. While one of these phases is expected to be ready by May this year, tender relating to the second phase was opened on Monday. This work will require an additional six months,' Mahadevappa clarified.

The minister added that the first 13 km stretch is being developed at a cost of Rs 69.90 crore.

M Srinivas had drawn attention of the minister to the fact that Rs 25.94 crore had been spent on Shiradi Ghat road during the last five years, and that traffic has been blocked this year once again for road development. He said that about a lac of people are dependent on this road on a daily basis, and they are facing untold miseries on this account.

The minister said that a permanent solution to the problems on this stretch is being provided now, and sought cooperation of the people, taking into account future benefits from this work. He said that once the work is finished, people will get a 8.5 metre-wide good quality concrete or asphalted road with 1.5 metres of shoulder.

He also said that consultations are also being held relating to the proposal of carving out tunnel road in Shiradi Ghat stretch with the assistance of Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA) and that efforts are being made to get approval for this project as soon as possible.

Roadways in India are changing for better, and they are changing slowly. Road towards Shirady Ghats is a tough deed, but there is a sign of progress in the quality of repairs. Creating proper and lasting trenches for the rain water to be channeled to pope creeks and rivers is one of the solution, but our experts and our leaders know the right answers.

When you travel by luxury bus, from our little observation, the pot-holes are reducing, and from our humble expectations the overall situation is progressing.

When noble people attack some of our beloved leaders, it is little disheartening, but since we are scattered so far away, it is difficult to ascertain the authenticity of the facts and figures, and therefore let the law decide what is right and what is not right.

All that we pray is for good roads to prevail so that more and more people have the privilege of visiting some the best scenic sights in India and enjoy the beauty of nature that lies beneath.

Creating good roads and lasting roads is part of the solution for the future of India so that not only trade and commerce but also travel and tourism may continue to improve in the days ahead. Dhanyawadh.

Surface Road repair takes 12 months. Then digging entirely new tunnel will take 40 years if left to NHAI

H C Mahadevappa is the PWD minister of Karnataka and not of Central Govt. He has given this Statement in Karnataka Assembly even though NHAI comes under Center. Such project is done under the supervision and coordination of State Govt PWD dept only. Hence, for this delay and resultant cost overrun Karnataka PWD minister is also answerable. Calling of tender and awarding contract is overseen by State PWD dept along with NHAI authorities. So, efficient handling of such projects by State Govt would have completed the project faster. Hence, what Ramakrishna A K has commented hereunder is partially correct. How is that the Gujarat & Maharashtra Highways are completed faster and of better quality even though there also it is the same NHAI which handles such projects.

The highways may be in a dilapidated condition, but the Railways in Dakshina Kannada are the exclusive privilege, birthright and property of the Mallu’s from Kerala. Even the previous tainted Raiway Minister Gowda could neither do an iota of help with introduction of new trains or tracks or employment to locals (instead of those from Kerala) nor establish a long pending railway zone & regional HQ for South Kanara.

His predecessor Cabinet Minister and Gandhi family loyalist, Infrastructure & Highways minister Oscar, repeatedly promised 5000 crores of Highways and Railway tracks for the much-ignored Dakshina Kannada district, but ended-up, personally pocketing 10 times more, with the Shiradi Ghat being just one of his famous stamps of irresponsibility.

Experts have repeatedly mentioned that the entire highway from Blr to Mlr could be asphalted with a feet-high, very thick layer of super-tough, hot-mixed, all-weather asphalt/bitumen for just around 50 crores! Regretfully, the proposed total cost of almost 150 to 200 crorers in total for just a small 26 KMS stretch of the national highway, over a incomprehensive 1.5 year period of repair work, is a world record for looting the public exchequer! What is more, the people tasked with uting the project are all well-known, NHAI black-listed contractors with political godfathers from the Ullal, Bantwal and Kasaragod areas.

After making a fortune, sufficient to last for 100 generations, Oscar Mama is cooling his heels in Delhi while dearest Blossom Fernandes is busy shopping for gold and diamonds in Dubai....

Having got shunted out of Railways for inefficiency & shady deals, 70MM Smile Gowda is busy pulling strings and amending the law to ensure dearest Karthik can flirt once again....

I-dont-care Niddaramaiah is busy uting a bigger project than the massive 700 crore Arkavathy layout de-notification scam...err..modification....

No English, No Hindi but MP Nalin Kateel is busy with Ghar-Vapasi and helping Ramakathaa Swami escape jail...

Hardworking District in-charge Minister Rai, Khader and team fly in and out, as always busy with their own and own family welfare....

And now our lifeline called Shiradi Ghat will be in ICU for another year, bleeding black money to all the hardworking leeches!

The Karnataka Government indirectly says that please do not come to Bangalore for any work (especially official work). The Karnataka Government think that it is good if undivided Dakshina Kannada to become a separate state. Government is not introducing additional rail also. Therefore the Government authority intentionally make delay for tender work and repair work. You compare in other part of the Karnataka the roads connecting the state capital and the district head quarters are excellent roads. In other hand compare the road state capital connecting with Mangalore!. Therefore it is clear that Karnataka State Government is not including Dakshina Kannada district is a part of it. It collects huge amount of tax from us. Just think of it. Raise this matter against the State Government.

Dear friends, After 60 years of Independence our footpaths in the Capital Bangalore and also in the heart of the City are getting repaired with a project called TenderSure. How much more can we expect from the people who ruled this state for the last 60 years.Anyway, its a wake up call for all parties to develop or get destroyed in the next elections after AAP came into power in Delhi. For sure , we will see AAP contesting in Karnataka in the next assembly elections and BBMP elections.

Wow...around 95 crores for just 26 KMs! After the intention delays and additional budget, it may as well be around 200 crores total costs and around 1.5 years.

Well, at a shocking cost of 4 to 7 crores per KM, anyone else in any other country, would have built a world-class, multilane super highway paved with the world’s best ceramic or marble or granite or ideally steel-reinforced concrete tiles!

The well-entrenched mafia of State Govt Ministers, Dakshina Kannada MPs & MLAs of the two key parties along with crooked Engineers and corrupt NHAI contractors is making a killing on this Goldmine called Shiradi Ghat. A recent look at the Gundya-Nelyadi stretch revealed that they are merely filling-up the potholes with cement coloured sand and then asphalting a onion skin layer of asphalt instead of concrete while the helpless common man is undergoing indescribable hardships.

Blame it on Nidramaiaah or the District-In-Charge Minister or the Central Ministers or the MPs/MLAs from SK or the NHAI’s contractors, the ‘perpetual Shiradi Ghat world-class highway project’ has been one of the major scam-tainted cash cows for all ruling parties, for decades.

NHAI comes under central government! At least our DK MP's can try to speed up the process for a change!! Otherwise their work is not noticeable at all!! It is important to note that MOdi wave and religion card is running out of currency!! It is a big shame that major connectivity is neglected for several decades! Last 5 years repair money could have been utilized for a good road!

In Gujarat they would have completed 26 km concrete road within four months. Shame on Karnataka Govt.
Now the repair time of Shiradi is doubled and shortly they will double the estimate amount also so that corrupt politicians, Engineers, and contractors can eat half of the money.
