Kasargod, Feb 12: Forest fire raged at Talpanaje near Kanyappady, Badiyadka, on Tuesday February 10 afternoon for several hours, and burnt down trees, grass, and agricultural produce spread over about 20 acres of land.

The fire began to spread from the roadside at Talpanaje. Although locals tried their best to douse the fire, it proved to be beyond their capacity. They then called the fire brigade. The locals, with the help of fire brigade personnel and police, succeeded in fighting the fire and extinguishing the same after a long effort.

The timely action by the locals prevented the fire from inflicting more losses, it is being analyzed. In the recent past, forest fires had been experienced at Badiyadka, Manya, Kanyappady, Nellikatte,, Ukkinadka and other places. Considering the nature of fire, the people strongly feel that some anti-social elements were at work behind these fires. They have urged the police to hold investigation and punish the culprits.
