Madikeri, Feb 13: In a flash operation, policemen of Gonikoppal station in the district raided the house of Suneeta (35), wife of Ganapati from T Shettigeri village on the allegation of stealing gold chain from Muliya Jewllers in Gonikoppal. The police also confiscated a gold chain weighing 40 grams from her possession. The accused was produced in the court at Ponnampet on Thursday February 12 evening.

The police identified the accused on the basis of closed circuit television (CCTV) footage provided by Gururaj, manager of Mulliya Jewellers, who complained about the theft on Thursday morning, and raided her house at around 10.30 am. Suneeta was questioned and arrested after the gold chain valued at about Rs 1.25 lac was found in her possession.

Suneeta had made use of the opportunity provided by the diversion of attention of the employees of the jewellery store when they were busy over phone. She quietly placed the chain in her plastic bag and walked away. The theft came to light when checking the stock in the evening.

Local police circle inspector, P K Raju, and sub-inspector, J E Mahesh, conducted the raid under the guidance of district superintendent of police, Vartika Katiyar, and deputy superintendent of police, Kumar Chandra.
