Karkala, Feb 13: In a strange incident, a person from Sagar in Shivamogga district, who had brought areca nut for sale to the district and was returning with sale proceeds, lost Rs 2 lac within a few minutes near Yennehole Bridge in Hirgana village near here. Although the incident had occurred on Tuesday, the incident came to light with delay.

Abdul Samad, an areca nut merchant from Abdul Nagara in Sagar, Shivamogga district, had brought about 1,600 kg areca nut for sale to Mangaluru. He was returning in the Mahindra pick-up truck in which areca nut was brought, to Sagar, along with Rs 2 lac he had collected as sale proceeds. Cash as above was kept in the dash board. The vehicle also had two drivers, Salim and Azeem, it is learnt.

Abdul Samad had got down from the vehicle near Yennehole Bridge for attending to nature's call for a couple of minutes. After he boarded the vehicle again and the vehicle started moving, he opened the dash board for his comb, and was shocked to find that cash kept there had gone missing. When questioned, both Salim and Azeem feigned ignorance, and failed to provide any convincing reply, it is gathered.

In a complaint filed in the town police station here, Samad has expressed suspicion about the role of the above two drivers in the theft of his money. Based on this complaint, a case was registered, and investigation has been undertaken.
