ICC holds community sports on Qatar national sports day

Qatar, Feb 13: To show the solidarity with the host country, the Indian Cultural Centre under the aegis of Embassy of India conducted Indian community sports day at Al Arabi Stadium, on the eve of Qatar national Sports Day on Tuesday February 10.

More than a thousand people participated, attended and enjoyed the event including women and children. The event was inaugurated by the defense attaché from the Indian Embassy Captain Ravi Kumar and presided during the awards ceremony by the deputy chief of mission R K Singh and the first secretary Dinesh Udenia from the Embassy of India.

The president of Indian Cultural Center, Girish Kumar welcomed the gathering. Jayati Maitra, the head of cultural activities proposed the vote of thanks.

The entire program was coordinated by Sayed Ali, the head of sports at the Indian Cultural Centre in coordination with ICC managing committee members, senior community members, technical coordinators and Volunteers.

The following game was conducted during the day: Kho Kho, Cricket, Kabaddi, Tug of war, Long jump and Ball throw for men, women and children from all age groups. Trophies were presented to all winners and runners up.

The following teams won the games in their respective games:

CRICKET– Winner - TRAQ and Runners-up ASTAD PROJECT MANAGEMENT
KABBADI – Winner ATS Tulu Koota and Runners-up VEPEX
KHO KHO- Winner MCC and Runners-up ATS– Tulu Koota
TUG OF WAR – MEN – Winner Friends of Kerala and Runners-up KODACA
TUG OF WAR – WOMEN – Winner MES and Runners-up VEPEX

This is the third year in succession that ICC is holding the sports day in line with the vision and objectives of the host nation Qatar.

The Indian Cultural Centre is the official body of the Indian expatriate community functioning under the patronage of the Embassy of India for the purpose of advancement of Sports, social, cultural activities of the Indian Community in Qatar. The proclaimed objective of ICC includes promoting the rich Indian culture among the expatriates of all nationalities living in Qatar. Further, ICC is committed to function as a body of Indian Embassy to strengthen the deep rooted Indo-Qatar friendship and cultural relationship.
