Udupi: Woman 'thief' from Tamil Nadu caught at wedding, handed over to police

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (UM)

Udupi, Feb 15: The locals at Udyavar on Sunday February 15 caught a woman who was allegedly trying to steal at a marriage function here.

The woman, who identified herself as Roja from Salem, Tamil Nadu, has been taken for inquiry.

It is said that Roja had gone uninvited to a wedding that was being held at Halima Sabju hall at Udyavar on Sunday. She was wearing burkha and allegedly moving around suspiciously.

When the people at the wedding questioned her, she ran out of the hall, and on reaching the highway, threw away a purse she was carrying.

The locals as well as the people who were at the wedding chased her and managed to catch hold of her. She was handed over to Kaup police station.

During questioning, she said that she was Roja from Salem, and claimed that she went to the wedding only to have lunch and not to steal.

She also claimed that the purse she threw away belonged to her. It is not yet confirmed if it really belonged to her or to a guest at the wedding.

Further investigations are on.

If this woman go to any of the biriyani preparing restaurant and asked for free food, I am sure, the restaurant owners would have given her food at least for the first time. Mangaloreans are special people charitable and generous even though Mangalore was in the news for all the wrong reasons in the recent past.

Let us not judge this lady. The investigation will reveal the truth.

Lawrence utter rubbish. She is not a kid who will come quietly only for food. Such a big lady, definitely she had come with the motive to rob. She should be questioned for the real reason she went there.

while reading this episode, i remember my boyhood days in mangalore. As we were very poor, to have a decent meal I used to attend weddings or any functions without invitation just to have meal. As soon as the meal or dinner is over I used to runaway.but never in my life no one questioned me.

I agree in general. But be careful. I have been duped 2 times when I helped (men in these cases) citing that they were lost and wanted some money to return. I ended up giving Rs.100 in each case and later found out they were fooling people (I found one of them loitering around asking for money from others, this time citing a different home town! and another person kept speaking with me after I gave the money said enough for me to doubt he was anywhere close to genuine - he was using this money for drinks and that made me feel very sad). Having said that, with enough investigation, we must help out. I maintain my trust in honesty of people (and someday God will give me the opportunity to serve somebody in real trouble). I think these are opportunities God provides to gather good deeds (and sometimes to test our smartness :-) ).

A YOUNG WOMEN IN QUESTION HERE.SHE MIGHT HAVE NOT FOUND A JOB AT THIS HOUR AND HUNGER MIGHT HAVE TAKEN HER TO THE WEDDING HALL AND BEING A GATE CRASSER SHE MIGHT BE NERVOUS.A HUNGRY HUMAN CAN'T SEE RIGHT OR WRONG AND OVERCOMING POVERTY IS NOT A TASK OF CHARITY.YOU CAN'T BUILD A PEACEFUL WORLD ON EMPTY STOMACHS AND HUMAN MISERY.FOOD DOESN'T COME FREE EVEN IF YOU ASK IN A WEDDING HALL. THEY WILL MAKE THEM SIT AT A LONELY PLACE AND AT THEIR WILL THEY MAY SERVE.

Nowadays we dont know whom to believe and whom not.Since the woman had come uninvited in burkha and moving about suspiciously, running away by questioning. The one came to have meal will nót move about suspiciously.wait till meals are served and runaway when questioned.most important,we kannadigas are very soft hearted, believe everything and are give help generously.May be one or two exception ,who are needy .To such People instead of Money, either give meals or ticket as one of Readers did.Last some months ago lot of thefts at marraige places have taken place, one should be careful.Such persons are coming good dressed move with other People of guests ,look for a Chance to steal Gold.Such thefts are very much increased at weddings last time. They are not looking for meals.who is in search of meals will wait with Patience,or ask,not run.It is not written on their heads who is a thief or a good one.Better be careful in future,at functions.if it was her own handbag, she wouldnt throw. Most probably emptied the Contents and threw away.

Please do not judge this lady just by her actions.People are fools!I met a lady some days back who is from north. She had no money and run away from home due to mental tortures and she did not complain because of her 2 kids. Here people who met her to come and have sex and then offer money. She refused and was starving for one and half day.All she asked was food and ticket to home.Which we did it.Lady had wept and cried with tears thanking God and us till she got into the train.Funny thing is lots of people watching this only were negative towards whole thing and instead of helping, they wanted to beat her and take her to police.Last week lady called us and thanked us and said she reached and God saved her life and was united with her family. All is well! People please think twice.Do not judge others by outer appearances...Please.God forbid tomorrow you could be in such position.Do not know Ahead what life has in store. So please loving, forgiving and show kindness. It will not go away.

Going by the photographs this lady is young, pretty and looks well fed. I think that more investigation needs to be carried out to confirm her real intentions for attending the party uninvited. Probably she is a habitual gate crasher at wedding receptions.

One should not come to conclusions. Here is a case of poor woman perhaps starving for days. She tried to attend The Wedding Feast hoping to partake of a meal to satisfy her hunger.

Let us therefore be charitable in our judgement.
