Udupi: Highway robbery plan - four Nepal origin men held

Udupi, Feb 16: A team of policemen led by town police inspector, Srikant, arrested four persons from near Udyavar Balaipade near here at around midnight on Saturday February 14. It is said that the gang of four was planning to rob people and vehicles moving on national highway 66.

The arrested men have been identified as Karan Bahadur Khadg (42), Dil Bahadur Rukaya (40), Bheem Bhadur Thapa (28), and Sher Bahadur Khadg (35). One among the team members, Ram Bahadur Thapa, succeeded in giving the policemen a slip. All the five are natives of Nepal, it is gathered.

The police recovered a sword, two iron rods, two packets of chilli powder and a sharp edged wooden piece.

The policemen had raided the spot after gathering information that the gang was planning to block vehicles by placing boulders across the highway, threatening those in the vehicles with swords, and rob them.
