Mangaluru: Truck hits two-wheeler in heart of city - Rider killed on spot

Mangaluru, Feb 16: A man was killed on the spot in an accident near AB Shetty circle here on Monday February 15.

The deceased has been identified as Umar Farooq (26), a resident of Krishnapura.

It is learnt that Umar was riding towards Hampankatta when a ten-wheel truck hit his two-wheeler and moved over him, killing him on the spot. The truck was coming from Bunder.

Umar was an employee at Ekart Logistics, sources said.

Kadri east traffic police are expected to register a case.

    I have seen the traffic police chatting n having a gala time instead of doing their duty near the Nanthoor circle sometimes, with the police a little more vigilant and aware ,we can help to bring down the number of such accidents.

    Don't know what they mean by EXPECTED.. are they waiting for a good omen / bad omen (mangalshani) or what?

    Mangalore is doomed and gone to the dogs ... something has to be done.

    Accidental deaths are a daily occurrence. Something radical should be done to to ensure safety of two wheelers and the public. As far as trucks and buses are concerned, it is very frightening to see them drive throwing all laws to the air.

    This is the time the Traffic police should think of A SUPPORT TEAM TO HELP THEM.

    The problem is not only the trucks ,have u seen the service bus drivers drive in that road ? They drive like they own the streets .... Mangalore police should take a strict action against this

    Very sad. But we cannot blame the govt.If you see the way they drive creates chill in the heart.Most of them youngsters seen riding on two wheelers around colleges to impress others as if only they know how to drive.

    It is so sad, his soul rest in peace. First of all our law is very weak comparatively other countries. If accidents happens because of reckless driving at the moment driver will be fled from the scene secondly he will surrender with lawyer then he will be out from bail etc. etc.. But we need strong law like blood money and jail for certain period then only we can avoid such type of reckless driving. The most important is Department should now allow any heavy Truck vehicles in the city during day time, especially heavy trucks shall be allowed during night time only (from 10 PM to 6AM).

    That is so sad. May His Soul Rest in peace. What a tragedy and a Young life just gone.Loss to the family but truck driver will go Scot free as his owner will come n release him. ! As long as RTO does not apply stringent rules against offending drivers, we will have these accidents and deaths. Seize their Driving licence and ban them from driving for 03 months / 06 months or even 12 months depending on gravity of offense. I am sure number of accidents will decrease in Mangalore.

    10 wheeler trucks should not be allowed to ply in City area. RTO should take stringent action including cancellation of Licence of Driver/cancellation of Permit of truck which if found plying in city area.

    Very Sad incident. Truck and bus drivers always neglect two wheeler, cyclist and pedestrians. They are over confident that monster/large vehicle will not be affected by this small vehicle, in addition they get bail easily within 2 hours of arrest due to new regulation. Leave pay due to such accident related absent also motivate them to some extent.

    These huge buses and trucks are not meant for our narrow roads, since broadening of roads is outta question, better invent such kinda vehicles which is easily maneuverable. If the roads in Japan was like India may be they would have come up with something.

    RIP... Very danger's circle in Mangalore city, Buses are taking a long turn over there, they dnt care about other vehicles, whether the bus competition is going on there.. god knows, it is also front of RTO.
