Mangaluru, Feb 16: Gulf NRI Forum of Kuwait on Monday February 16 urged improvement in the services of Air India Express flights between Mangaluru and Kuwait.

Addressing a press meet here, Gulf NRI Forum of Kuwait president Pascal Pinto said, "We thank DGCA Kuwait, DGCA India and Air India for restarting the direct flight between Mangaluru-Kuwait. This is very useful for the growth of tourism in the coastal region and for patients who travel to the coastal region for the cheaper medical treatment."

Urging for more convenient flight timings, he said, "We request the authorities to implement old timings. Earlier the departure from Kuwait was at 12 am IST and arrival was 7.15 am IST which was very convenient for all of us and it saved time. But now the departure from Kuwait is at 12 pm IST and arrival at 7.15 pm IST which is causing inconvenience to many, especially if the flight is delayed."

He also urged for more facilitiees in the flight, saying, "The authorities need to provide more facilities to mothers with infants and aged persons. They should provide fresh refreshments and not sandwiches, and also provide some drinks against payment.

"The seating needs to be improved. It is hard for passengers to journey for 4.30 hours. We are facing problem of buying tickets with credit cards and online booking which is not available. When questioned about these issues, they always reply that the credit cards may be 'hacked'," he said.

"Ticket fare and seating facility should be reasonable. The other budget airlines provide newspaper and TV which are missing in Air India Express. We are thankful to Air India but we also wish for better facilities, becuse we pay money and we need good service."

Tejomaya, former chairman of Mangalore Urban Development Authority (MUDA), Lewis Lobo KORWA president, Janardhan, ZP member were present.

Our IXE Airport is more than capable of handling A320s & B737s. Its just that Air India wants to hold on to the monopoly. Or else Emirates, Qatar Airways, Etihad are more than willing to start with their smaller fleet. A simple matter of greed not allowing growth. Wish they would allow more International airlines to start. Would bring a big change in On time performance, world class service, competitive fares...etc.

    Dear Friends,
Air India is not going to do anything......
Its not easy for other airlines to start ..bcse they have to open offices ,Keep staff, Engineering department lots of things, How many passengers travel everyday...??
Yes they can give permission for Fly Dubai, Air Arabia.
Via Mangalore-Bangalore-Dubai or to destination where the flight is coming from.
And improvements of AI express. They will not do ...If they had the interest they would have done by now.

Why not make an attempt to woo other GCC airlines to start low cost service instead of begging AIE which offers poor quality service..??

Please allow Emirates, Ethihad, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, Gulf, Saudia Airlines to operate flights to Mangalore. Jet Airways presently operate only to Dubai from Mangalore, if it starts flights to other Middle East destinations would be great.

I like present timing, after finish the night duty, directly going to airport and sleeping on airplane and flying every two and half months. Yes, service is not so good, but ok.

I disagree the comments of mr.agnel udupi.Everybody in Kuwait do not have night duty. Most of the mangaloreans are having day duty in Kuwait and the present timings are not really suitable. One full day of work is wasted. Night flights are very convenient because it reaches mangalore early morning and many of the passengers specially ladies who travel alone or with small kids may be able to reach their destination during day time without asking anyone to come and pick them up.I suggest rather request AIR INDIA management to keep the old timings which will be convenient to all of us.

Emirates can't provide direct flights as the hub is in Dubai. Also, emirates can't operate to mangalore airport as they have only wide bodied aircraft and runway can't accommodate it. And at the last no international airlines can't operate until They get landing rights. Mangalore route is lucrative and all airlines want to operate.
