Kundapur, Feb 20: A four-and-a-half-year-old child who was victim of a tragic kitchen mishap about 23 days ago breathed her last on Friday February 20.

On January 18, the child, identified as Manvi, was playing in the kitchen, when she accidentally fell into a big bucket of hot rice water (left over liquid from strained rice) while her mother was cooking.

Manvi sustained serious injuries on her body and was taken to Chinmayi hospital in Kundapur for first aid, and then rushed to A J hospital in Mangaluru for advanced treatment. But after battling for life for so many days, the child who had shown signs of recovery just a day ago ultimately breathed her last.

Cause of death uncertain

The child who battled for life for 22 days had shown some recovering signs and hence was shifted to the ward. She was then diagnosed with blood deficiency and blood was transfused in time. It is now said that after the blood transfusion, the child developed itching on her body. It is not clear whether the child died as a result of something going wrong with transfusion or as a direct result of the kitchen mishap.

The girl's mother works in a private firm.

A complaint has been registered in Kota police station stating that the incident took place at the residence of the deceased. Locals also questioned as to why hot water rice was kept in such a big bucket, which they said is normally not the practice in most homes.
