Doha: Claude Nite - Mangalore Cricket Club Honours Felix Lobo

Doha, Jan 22: On Friday 19th January 2007, the Konkanni speaking Mangaloreans regaled to the tunes rendered by Claud, Ronnie D’Cunha and Anita Samson and to the comedy of Dolla and Kulla.
The “House full’ show organised by Mangalore Cricket Club was the first ever ‘Claud Nite’ in Doha. It was unique in more ways than one and was certainly a night to be fondly remembered.
Local singers Ronnie Mendonca, Celia D’Souza, Rupesh D’Souza and Sarita Mendonca added extra flavour with their melodious voices.
Local comedians Vivian D’Souza, Neville Wilfred, Gladys D’Silva along with Reena Castelino and Sana Britto helped Dolla and Sanjeeth (Kulla) in keeping the crowd entertained with rib tickling comedy.
Nancy Pereira, Bessie D’Souza and Celia D’Souza choreographed the beautiful dances which gave a test run to the hips and toes of the dancers of various age groups and held the attention of the audience captive.
Under the direction of Ivy Rosario with creative assistance provided by Mr. William Lobo, tableaus with palace scenes were put up to depict Raja Rani to go along with the title song, men and women carrying various vojis while Vadyanthlo Roce was sung added attraction to the show and reminded the scenes of a real roce.
Special appearance of Capt. Virdi’s Bhangra troupe led by Mr. Paramjeet Singh to follow the Balle Balle song had the audience spellbound and forced the audience to join the Bhangra dance.
The spellbinding live music was directed and conducted by Lance D’Souza supported by Rupesh D’Souza, Nestor Pereira, Ray D’Souza, Darshana Moravaka and Charles Bhojja.
MCC Cultural Secretary Alwyn D’Souza realized his dream of making the program with a difference, succeeded without doubt as the large cinema screen continuously showed typical scenes highlighting the Mangalorean landscape, flora and fauna and the popular culture. Farook Parkar put his skills to test as the screen also displayed graphics that perfectly blended with the moods of the songs.
At the onset, Alwyn D’Souza welcomed the gathering. President Norbert Corda in his address detailed the activities of the club and requested all Mangaloreans to join MCC as MCC is their only club. He said that all Konkani speaking Mangaloreans of Qatar should be proud as they stand united as one family which is the very motive of the club. Stephanie Lobo released the Souvenir. Eddie Sequeira and Oliver Pereira were responsible for compiling, graphic works and printing of the souvenir.
Indian Ambassador Dr. George Joseph graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. In his message he highlighted the plight of many Indian expatriate workers and his efforts to relieve as many as possible from their misery. As per his request an auction of the 2 flower bouquets presented to him was held and our fellow Mangaloreans rose up to the challenge to help the needy by bidding QRs. 1000/- and QR. 1500/- respectivel.y The amount will be handed over to the Ambassador.
Past President Felix Lobo was honoured by MCC with a ‘Maan Pathr’? and a shawl for the services he rendered to the club and to the community. Immediate past President Richard D’Souza beautifully described the vision and works of Mr. Lobo. In his reply, Lobo thanked all who made it possible. Vice President Sunil D’Silva proposed the vote of thanks. Founder Member Jerald D’Mello was specially thanked for the role he played for making travel, boarding and lodging arrangements and financial support garnered by him.
Leading entrepreneur and a staunch supporter of all community activities Alfred Sequeira and visiting veteran konkani actress Mable Kent of Rosario parish honoured the guest artistes, Music Director Lance D’Souza and the choreographers with mementos.
CGS Taccode as the compere of the programme had the audience rolling on their seats with his rib tickling humour.
