Karkala, Jan 23: The annual feast of St Lawrence Church at Attur here began on a solemn note on Tuesday January 23 morning.  The feast will be held on January 23, 24 and 25.

Fr Hilary Lobo, parish priest of Taccode offered the solemn mass on Tuesday morning and set the festival rolling.  Attur parish priest Fr Arthur Pereira welcomed the devotees.

Thousands of devotees are already thronging to St Lawrence’s Shrine at Attur.  This is a shrine where people from all walks of life irrespective of caste, creed, and religion visit and beseech God’s blessings through the intercession of St Lawrence.

The entire Church and its surroundings are decked with lights, decoration heralding the festive days.   The church compound is full with shops and ferry is spread even on the outskirts of the church.

The vespers followed by festive mass will be held on Tuesday evening.  Bishop Emeritus Ignatius Pinto will offer the solemn mass.  “Yesu Charitam”, a bharatnayam show on the life of Jesus Christ will be held at 8 pm on Tuesday.
