Mysuru: Yaduveer all set for adoption ceremony on Monday

Mysuru: Feb 23 (DHNS): The Amba Vilas Palace is all set for the adoption ceremony of Yaduveer Gopal Raj Urs, the ‘adopted son-designate’ of Wadiyars, the royal family of Mysuru, on Monday.

After his adoption, Yaduveer will be rechristened ‘Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar.’ He will be the 27th Wadiyar king, though titular, succeeding his grand uncle late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar.

On Sunday, Yaduveer rehearsed for the procession in the silver chariot, on how to board and alight it with grace, at the courtyard in front of the Kalyana Mantapa where the main ceremony will be held. Apart from the palace workers, Yaduveer had for his help, Pramoda Devi Wadiyar — wife of royal scion Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar — his parents Tripurasundari Devi and Swarup Anand Gopal Raj Urs and other kith and kin who were watching the rehearsal with equal curiosity from the windows of Kalyana Mantapa. A detachable ladder was used to board the chariot.

In keeping with the tradition, Yaduveer was wearing a traditional headgear, a must to sit inside the chariot.

It is the same chariot in which Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar was taking out a procession as part of the private Dasara organised within the Palace precincts, besides the government sponsored Dasara. Yaduveer is expected to be taken in a procession in the same chariot as part of the public programme after his adoption ceremony on Monday evening around 6 pm. Prior to that, there will be a reception at the ‘Aane Baagilu.’

As per the customs and tradition, the rituals will begin with the bringing of God to the Palace from Kodi Someshwara Swamy Temple, that has a significant place in the founding of the Yadu Dynasty to which the Wadiyars belong to. The water tumblers decorated with flowers and mango leaves will be taken in a procession on an elephant and a camel to the Palace.
