    Karkala, Jan 23: The festive atmosphere has pervaded within and outside the premises of famous shrine of St Lawrence at Attur near here. 

    As reported earlier the fest was set rolling on Tuesday January 23 morning.  In the even the grand festal mass was celebrated by Bishop Emeritus Ignatius Pinto.  Thousands of devotees participated in the mass and beseeched blessings from God through the intercession of St Lawrence.

    Melodious choir and meaningful liturgy was the highlight of the evening. Elsewhere outside the church thousands of devotees irrespective of caste, creed and religion were seen lighting candles, offering prayers and masses, visiting the pond of miracles.

    Sweet stalls, watermelons, famous "thamdde gulles" (special sweets) etc have always been the hallmark of Attur fest.  This year too was not an exception in this regard.  Though it is 11 pm IST people are thronging in big numbers to the shrine.  This is just the beginning and the festivities will go on for another two days.
