Mangaluru: State government sanctions Rs 4.97 crore to develop Kadri Park

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (DV)

Mangaluru, Feb 23: "The state government has approved Rs 4.97 crore for the installation of a laser fountain with musical show in the former deer park which is also part of Kadri Park, and for the development of Kadri Park," said MLA J R Lobo.

He was addressing a press meet at MUDA office on Monday February 23.

Lobo, emphasizing the need to make Kadri Park a tourist destination, said, "Kadri Park will be developed as a tourist spot of the city. Tender process will be started. Shopping stalls and footpaths will be constructed connecting the old deer park and the Kadri Park. Also, parking arrangements will be made at one corner."

He also said that he would use Rs 20 lac from the MLAs fund to construct an entrance gate for Kadri Park. "Inside the Kadri Park, there will be a fountain and gardens on either sides. With the help of donors, a separate area for specially-abled children will also be set up," added Lobo.

He also said that one corner of Kadri Park will be developed as a picnic spot. "The government has also been requested to grant Rs 40 lac in the upcoming budget for the toy train. This work will be completed within one year.

"For the maintenance of the park, entry fees will be collected. The formation of a society under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner will be discussed with horticulture department and the district administration," added Lobo.

Great proposal and planning to develop Deer & Kadri Park. Hope to visit and relax there when I retire from Kuwait.

In addition to various amenities/facilities listed, there should be enough Security personnel and round the clock monitoring of the surroundings. (CCTV's)

Hope fully moral police, culture protectors and peeping toms will not mess up small incidents like, some love birds found relaxing. (Hand in hand).

Why spend 20 lacks to construct an entrance gate? Do we need a toy train? Why not a roller coaster? Even kids don't want to take a ride on a toy train any more. Please modernise the park, not the same old park with a face lift!!!

Good move. We don't have many parks in Mangalore city. The developers should keep in mind the growing population while proceeding with makeover. The money approved definitely brings this park to the international standard. Surely nominal fee at the entrance is not at all the problem. We hope this project will send signal to the neighboring states that one of the finest park which will surpasses all the expectation.

Parks create an opportunity for recreation and relaxation. Parks, Recreation and Relaxation obviously brings attraction for Tourism. All of the above bring attraction to the area that it belongs and brings appreciation to the properties.

There has to be a premium attached to all these additional attractions because these areas need continuous upkeep, maintenance as well as security and surveilance. People have to pay for the facilities provided for them and their families to relax and enjoy the privileges of life, particularly for the week ends.

Thank you, Mr. J. R. Lobo for your foresight on various amenities for the people of Mangalore. Wishing you and your leadership continued success in all your future plans and programs for Mangalore.

Our hometown deserves the best, and therefore under your leadership we look forward to see many more parks and recreation centers in and around Mangalore.

Eventually, we hope, that Nehru Maidan area should receive the best possible attention. The entire area from the Government Arrts College until the Cricket Pavilion needs a complete facelift and improvement. The Town Hall can be converted into a "Whitehouse". The fish market must go elsewhere. The entire area needs a good landscape with green grass throughout the cricket and soccer fields. The roadways need good landscape with suitable greenery all the way. The entire area can be easily changed into a "Trafalgar Square" so that people can walk from one end to another with good walkaways and side walks with cleanliness.

The week ends at the Nehru Maidan can be a good place for families to take a long walk from Government Arts College up to the D.C. Office and return back to the Govt Arts College with a nice walk and a good exercise.

Mangalore is a rich City today, and with the help of your leadership we should see many more improvements for Mangalore, and the entire Nehru Maidan area can be a mini Disney Land over the next ten years time. Best of luck.
