Vijayapura: Truck hits tractor from behind - seven killed

Vijayapura, Feb 25: Seven persons travelling in a tractor died, while four others were injured, after their vehicle was hit by a truck from behind on national highway between Golasangi and Mookartihala villages near Almatti in the district. The accident occurred on Tuesday February 24.

11 labourers from Golasangi village had visited Mookartihala village nearby in a tractor to attend to the work of accumulating maize and making a heap thereof in an agricultural field. A truck loaded with goods from Haryana hit the tractor from behind. While the front portion of the tractor engine got entangled in the protective wall of the bridge, the remaining portion got split into three.

Body parts of the deceased were found strewn on the road and nearby field. Both the tractor and the heaping equipment therein were reduced into a lump of mangled steel.

A case relating to this accident was registered in Nidagundi police station.
