Mangalore, Jan 26: The annual grand Car Festival of Sri Venkataramana Temple here in Car Street painted the Temple Square with rainbow colours.

The five-day event of the Gaud Saraswat Brahmin community is a commemoration of the divine union of Lord Venkataramana and Goddess Padmavathi.

The Okuli Habba or Holi celebrated on Friday brought thousands of people to the temple square. By smearing colours and sharing greetings, devotees, young and old let themselves be swayed by merriment.

The festival is also known as Kodial Theru in which men and women participate equally in the religious and cultural celebrations. Organized in various groups, the youth had a gala time with DJ music and dance.
