Mangaluru: Noted scholar Maulana Abdul Qadir passes away

Mangaluru, Feb 26: Imam of Shamir Syed Ali Masjid in the city, and noted scholar with in-depth knowledge about religious scriptures, Maulana Hazrat Sheikh Abdul Qadir, passed away at his residence in Kudroli in the city on Wednesday February 25. He was 88.

He had completed his Aleem course under the guidance of the late Hazarat Yousuf Syed Saheb. Thereafter, he served Shamir mosque here in the capacity of its Imam for 65 years.

The renowned scholar and guide of the Hanafi community had served as vice president of Darul Uloom Al Maahalif Karkala and Faizal Islam Madrasa in Shirva as trustee. He was noted for rendering service to the community in settling nikah and talak (divorce) related matters.

He was also involved with various other institutions and organizations.

He was a native of Kavalakatte in Beltangady, but had shifted his residence to Kudroli in the city long back. He leaves behind five sons and five daughters.

Mayyat Namaaz will be peformed at Zeenath Baksh Jumma Masjid at Bunder here at 12 noon on Thursday February 26. Funeral will take place thereafter, family sources said.

    End of an era...great scholar and a great human being.he was our ustaad and very important part my childhood. He was a gifted person.he had a amazing sense of humour.muslims and hanafi community of D.K will miss him dearly. His contribution to the hanafi community of our region will always be remembered. He will be forever remembered as the finest moulanas ever to serve the Muslim community.a gem of a man and an islamic scholar who was secular and a patriotic Indian and very modern in his world view.may his soul rest in peace and may Allah grant him jannah.
