Daijiworld Media Network – Dubai (VM)

Dubai, Jan 27: Kadi Dubai and Jashan were the champions of the Lourdes Kanajar Volley ball and Throw ball tournament that was held on January 26, 2007.

The final matches ended in a nail-biting finish where all the four teams displayed their exuberant qualities and nearly 600 people witnessed this sport.

The tournament was kicked off at 9 am on December 2, 2006 wherein just 5 league matches were played on that day before the rain started pouring in abundance, and the whole tournament was postponed.

On January 26 the league matches as well as the quarterfinals and semifinals were played before lunch. A total of 10 volleyball and 9 throw ball teams took part in the competition, although 12 teams had registered earlier in both categories.

The guests present were Fr Freddy of St Mary’s Church Dubai,  Frank Lobo of Galaxy Star Electromechanical Works LLC,  Walter Nandalike of Daijiworld.com, Sarvottam Shetty of Karnataka Sangha Abu Dhabi and James Mendonca of Mangalore Konkans.

LKAE president Lawrence D’Souza accompanied the guests to the stage to give away the trophies. LKAE sports co-ordinator Aloysius D’Souza proposed vote of thanks.
 
A raffle draw was conducted in the evening session and few senior members from Kanajar parish, Lucy Saldanha and Celestine Barboza, Lilly Tauro of Shirva distributed the prizes to the lucky winners.


The prizewinners are First Prize - Bonny Austin (ticket No 0805) Nikai LCD Television, second prize- G S Babu (No 1470) Panasonic Handy cam, Third prize- Socrates Hilvano (No 0221) Yashica digital still camera, Fourth prize Santosh - (ticket No 1091) Nokia mobile phone, Fifth prize - Pushpa Raj (No. 0186) DVD player.


The main sponsors of the event were UAE Exchange, Merit Frieght Shipping Co. LLC, Galaxy Star Electromechanical Works LLC, Humaid Al Suwaidi Real Estate LLC, Vas family and Prime Star Electric Co.

The tournament was conducted by Gilbert Aranha, an enthusiast and a well known entrepreneur in Dubai.



 


The Referees of Volleyball Tournament were Moidheen, who is well known as Dubai Duty Free player. Along with him Rajan Lewis, Jose, Vinod, Ashraf and Shabbir were the referees. For the Throw ball tourney Sudhakar Alva, Michael Castelino, Ivan Quadras and Merlyn D’Souza were the referees.

The proceeds of the tournament will be sent to poor children’s education fund back in Kanajar where 7 children are currently undergoing secondary and higher college education and are sponsored by Lourdes Kanajar.
