Mangaluru: Attack on Panir prayer centre - J R Lobo meets home minister

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru

Mangaluru, Feb 26: MLA J R Lobo on Thursday February 26 met home minister K J George to express concerns about the attack on St Joseph Vaz prayer centre at Panir here. Lobo was accompanied by Denis D’Silva, convenor of International Federation of Karnataka Christian Associations (IFKCA).

The home minister is learnt to have assured protection to the Christians in the region.

Speaking to daijiworld J R Lobo said, "We had a meeting with the home minister. He said that he has instructed the police department to take stern action aganst the miscreants as per the law. He also assured that the state takes the issue very seriously and is bound to protect all the religious places of worship in the state. Every person, no matter which religion he belongs to, has the right to practise his religion. Home minister has told us not to have any apprehensions on the matter of security in the state."

Denis D'Silva who was part of the delegation said, "IFKCA has condemned the incident carried out by anti-social elements to disrupt peace. The home minister has assured that matter would be dealt with."

Miscreants pelted stones at St Joseph Vaz prayer centre at Panir on the night of Tuesday February 24, damaging the glass enclosure containing the statues of Mother Mary and Infant Jesus.

I am not really worried about the attack on prayer center. It is a stray incident and Christian community in Mangalore is better positioned to repair the broken glasses. What really disturbed me are the pictures of 13 charred shops yesterday in Talapady with the poor vendors loosing their only livelihood for no mistake of theirs and those pictures really made me to bow my head in shame and it is hard to digest that we still have people of this kind in our'Buddivantara Jille'Mangaluru. On top of that we have educated(?) readers in this forum who support that action claiming that it is retaliation for stone pelting. While I pray to God to have mercy on those people, I would have appreciated Mr. Lobo had he discussed Talapady incident with Home Minister and about compensating those poor vendors to set up their business again.

Whoever has done this act, No god will forgive you. Bad is bad in the eyes of all gods. If you are following your own religion, religion does't teaches to harm anyone. Instead, it teaches to spread peace. The one slogan we always hear is "om shanti, om shanti" what does it mean. If everyone to be an hindu in the country, then is't it conversion?

Thank you Mr. J.R. Lobo for taking up this issue with Home Minister. Hope this request for our safety n security will be taken up seriously by the Govt.
Few of the comments am reading and it's sad to learn even in this Politicizing takes place. Come on readers may it be Christians, Hindus or Muslims or what so ever religion, each of us have equal rights to practice, preach and propagate our faith and religion. No one has the right to destroy my prayer house. What if tom other religion prayers places are attacked? Will society keep quiet like we have done. Mangalore will burn close down, tyres will be burnt on road etc etc if any other religious house are touched. Then why only our Christian Churches have been soft targets ?
If local MLA doesnt go to talk to Home Minister who else will go? Stop these atrocities against Christians please. We are Indians 01st and then religion comes.!

Attack against any prayer house is not an attack just on a religious body but IT IS A CRIME AGAINST SOCIETY. Dakshina Kannada fortunately has a very good Police Force and the area under reference is being handled by an efficient officer with a name and fame - Mr. Sharanappa IPS who is fair to all communities . At the Police Station level Ms. Bharati is an iron lady who does not mince words but is action oriented and would by all means act justly when supporting the right cause.

I know you are Catholic. but you are MLA too. Hence you should have get the Banner issue to HM.

Don't get up and alert when only Muslims and Christians attacked. That's not a good Sign for Sure.

    Dear Oliver,
Please don't relate other incidents now one thing at a time, otherwise it is diluting.
This Attack is on Panir prayer centre, People took the matter to Lobo, Lobo in turn took it to H.M.
If other incidents are already taken up by others, Lobo do not get scope to take them as well.
Lobo is honestly fair to all and he should be.
