Lokayukta raids find Illegal assets worth Rs 8.4 crore in state

Bengaluru, Feb 27: Lokayukta police on Thursday conducted simultaneous raids on 20 places in Bengaluru Rural, Bidar, Chamarajanagar, Kalaburagi and Mysuru and unearthed illegal assets worth Rs 8.4 crore.

The properties raided belong to M G Srinivasa Murthy, account superintendent, Bangalore Development Authority, range forest officer Shashikanth H, office of the joint director of Agriculture, Bidar, medical officer Dr N Karunakar, Government Hospital, T Narasipur, Mysuru, assistant executive engineer Mohammad Haji, Range Office-3, City Corporation, Kalaburagi, project director D B Lingannaiah, deputy commissioner’s office, Mysuru, and office manager S Parvathamma, Mysore City Corporation.

All of them have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

According to Lokayukta ADGP Prem Shankar Meena, Murthy, who joined BDA in 1991, draws a monthly salary of Rs 27,300 per month. He has acquired immovable property worth Rs 1.58 crore and movable property worth Rs 71.80 lakh. The total percentage of his disproportionate assets is 180.91 per cent. Shashikanth, who draws a salary of Rs 26,700 per month, owns Rs 1.06-crore worth immovable property and movable property worth Rs 23.52 lakh. The total percentage of illegal assets is 342.05.

Dr N Karunakar draws a monthly salary of Rs 33,600, owns a nursing home, two houses and three plots. His total immovable property is worth Rs 2.73 crore and movable property Rs 3.63 crore. The total percentage of illegal assets is 96.33.

AEE Mohammad Haji, who earns Rs 32,000 per month, has acquired immovable property worth Rs 80 lakh and movable property worth Rs 1.10 crore. The total percentage of illegal assets is 237.84.

Lingannaiah earns Rs 43,200 per month and has acquired immovable property worth Rs 72.16 lakh and movable property of Rs 90.17 lakh. The total percentage of illegal assets is 111.62.

Parvathamma draws a salary of Rs 26,700 per month. She owns immovable property worth Rs 1.34 crore, including a commercial complex, and movable property worth Rs 28.91 lakh. The total percentage of illegal assets is 180.

Lokayukta Joint Commissioner Syed Riyaz said that the bank accounts of persons in question are being scrutinised.

    It is no doubt a great job by Lokayukta but it seems there is no impact of these raids. We have been hearing about these raids and unaccounted wealth ceased. It looks as if the corrupt officials are not worried about this kind of raids. There are many more who have accumulated illegal wealth and are freely enjoying the same. Are these raids meant for only government officials? There are many business men who have crores of (unaccounted)currency hidden in their homes or somewhere. Instead of eyeing on foreign banks isn't it better to concentrate within the country and put the home on track.

    Good job by Lokayukta Officials. But my question still remains un answered : what happens to these erring officials, who had amassed such huge illegal wealth? What action has been and will be taken on these Govt Babus.!! Where do these assets, money, wealth go after these raids. can some one answer these few doubts that I always have. Once these officials are booked who takes action against them & what kind of actions is what I wonder always.

    Sir! you cannot tagline these officers as corrupt until the case is solved. The properties they posess might be the ancestorial property too. The percentage accounted there is the extra property found but not illegal. If there are legal papers for extra properties and money then no problem. And please dont use the word corrupt until everything is done. Because my father is included there too. I know how hard he has worked to build everything and though we belong to a reservation category we dont apply for it. It is because we use brains. Wait until the court order comes please.

    So what now... always we hear a lot like these incidents, rides, crores on money and assets seized. What happens after that ? there will be no news after that .. whether they are punished, sentenced... nothing. There were so many such raids and captured guys with huge illegal assets. but there is no track after the raid and seize. So, please ensure they are really punished for their illegal move.
