Udupi, Feb 27: Policemen of district crime intelligence bureau (DCIB) arrested a thief and recovered from him various assets worth Rs 13.4 lac. The arrested person has been identified as Naveen Shetty alias Muhammed Najeem (32), currently residing at Kotebagilu in Moodbidri, on Thursday February 26. He is originally from Ganibettu House in Havanje, Udupi taluk.

The arrest was made by a police team led by DCIB inspector, T R Jaishankar, under the directions of superintendent of police (SP), Annamalai K, and guidance of additional SP, Santosh Kumar, and deputy SP, Chandrashekhar K M.

A golden Karimani chain, a ring, two neck chains, a Xylo vehicle bearing No. KA 41 A 702 that is not backed by any records, a Tata Indigo car without any registration number, and a Yamaha Fazer motor bike bearing No. KA 20 Q 9759.

The policemen have found that the golden items were stolen by him from the house of Ashraf, residing at Santosnagar within the limits of Manipal police station.

The arrested man and confiscated assets have been handed over to Manipal police station. On Thursday night, he was produced before the magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.

It is gathered that Najeem already faces a case of theft which occurred within Thirthahalli police station limits, and he had absented from the hearings, after which the court had issued arrest warrant against him.
