Mangaluru, Feb 27: Hitting out strongly at the union government's land ordinance bill and terming the policies of the government as 'Hitler tendency', MLC Ivan D'Souza said that the ordinance is 'pro-corporate' and 'anti-farmer'.
Addressing a press meet at his office here on Friday February 27, Ivan said, "The union government is attracting the corporate sector instead of protecting the farmers. Congress will oppose this bill. The union government should withdraw this bill and implement the bill which was introduced during 2013.
"Acche Din (good days) of the BJP government are turning out to be the Acche Din for corporates," he added.
Commenting on the pathetic condition of police quarters in the city, he said, "The police quarters are in a pathetic state. The issue has been brought to the notice of the CM and the home minster and a proposal has been submitted demanding new buildings to be constructed after demolishing the existing ones. The home minister revealed that there are 122 police quarters and permission has been granted to demolish 60 quarters completely and the remaining 62 buildings are under government process for review."
He further said, "As there is reduction in paddy cultivation and to solve the water scarcity problem, a proposal has been sent to sanction a special grant of Rs 3,000 crore to implement Paschima Vahini project."
Ivan also disclosed a few proposals submitted to the government to set aside funds for important projects in the budget.
They are:
- Rs 22 crore to convert Pumpwell to Padil stretch into four-lane road and make it a model road.
- Rs 19 crore for construction of Sultan Bathery to Bengre suspension bridge.
- Rs 15 crore to demolish the old and deteriorating building of Women's Polytechnic and to construct a new building in its place.
- Rs 25 crore to construct a four-lane road from Marakada to the airport and Rs 30 crore for Maravooru bridge. It is urged that the project be included in the budget.
- Rs 40 crore to convert Kankanady market as a High-tech market as decided in Mangaluru Corporation meeting.
- Rs 100 crore to develop newly-included wards in the Mangaluru corporation which consist of uneven land.
- It is said that Rs 250 crore will be required to construct 12 km out of 31 km of road in the Corniche outer circle road. A proposal is sent to the department concerned to implement the project through the coastal development authority or any other authority.
- An estimate for Rs 700 crores is sent for the initial stage of 600-mt runway project at the Mangaluru airport. The department concerned is urged to implement the project.
