Udupi, Jan 29: The entire students’ community of Manipal was seen swinging to the tunes of amateur rock bands at the Hero Honda Campus Rock Idol 2007 South Zone Finals held at Shanthala Ground here on Sunday January 28.

The nation-wide collegiate event organised by DNA saw several amateur bands performing international rocks numbers. Each band was required to perform at least one original composition. The teams were allotted twenty minutes each to enthral the audience and impress the jury.

Popular rock bands ‘Synaps’ and ‘Galeej Gurus’ from Bangalore also entertained the massive crowd.

In the south zone level, ‘Public Issue’ from Chennai won the title while ‘Haven’ from Bangalore bagged the runners-up title.

In the Manipal zone, ‘Siny Shot’ from Bangalore and ‘System Error’ won the title and runners-up spot respectively.

The winning band will contest with finalists of east, west and north zones at the grand finale on February 10 at Pune. The winner of the final round will get a cash award of Rs 75,000 and a chance to perform along side international rock band Iron Maiden in Bangalore on March 17.
