Kundapur, Feb 28: On Friday February 27 afternoon, a thief who gained entry into a shop in the Late Kadri Narayana Master Commercial Complex near Siddapur bus stand in the taluk, went away with cash amounting to Rs 64,700.

Owners of the mobile phone shop inquestion, Shekhar Kotian and Santosh Kotian, had, as usual, gone for lunch at around 1.55 pm. During lunch hours, they had cultivated the practice of just downing the shutters without locking them.

The thief, who perhaps had closely observed this practice, entered the shop, took away Rs 56,000 kept in one counter, and Rs 8,700 from another counter, came out, acted as if he was talking over cell phone in order to act like normal visitor, and then went away.

The thief's movements were caught on camera in the CCTV of the neighbouring jewellery shop. The complex where this theft took place has several shops and a bank, and is always full of people.

A complaint has been registered in Sankarnarayana police station, and police have taken up investigation.
