Three killed, eight injured in Delhi fire


New Delhi, Feb 28 (IANS): Three people, including a one-year-old child, died and eight others received burn injuries in a fire that broke out at residential building here early Saturday, a fire service official said.

The incident was reported at 3.10 a.m. from Sadh Nagar part-two in west Delhi's Palam area.

"Two fire tenders were rushed to the spot and it took till 4.20 a.m. before the fire was doused," a fire official said. He added that the reason behind fire is yet to be ascertained.

All the victims were rushed to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital, where three were declared dead on arrival, and eight are being treated for burn injuries.

Among the injured are one Balraj Khokhar, 58, a fire brigade station officer who received hand injuries during the operation. The other injured were Indu, 27, Mamta, 35, Shitla, 55, Ritesh, 35, Vishnu, 44, Savita, 34 and Geeta, 19.

Two of the dead have been identified as Akshay (1) and Jagdish (32) while the third, in his early 20s, could not be identified.

The official said the three-storeyed building in which the fire broke out had six residential flats.
