Udupi, Mar 1: Samudra puja and pillar installation for the tidal power unit, a project undertaken by Susi Global Research Center of Vijay Kumar Hegde, was held on Sunday March 1 at Kadike beach at Kemmannu here.

Sri Vishweshatheertha Swamiji of Pejawar Math performed puja for the power generation engine.

Addressing the gathering, the Swamiji said, "This is a big achievement. Hegde dedicated his life for the invention of non-conventional energy sources. Scientists need to focus their attention on these types of inventions, and create awareness about energy projects. Generation of power is very much essential for all kinds of development."

"It is better to concentrate on alternative energy and eco-friendly technology than destroying the agricultural land for energy projects," Swamiji added.

Swamiji questioned the poor encouragement from the state government to developmental works and called on the government to promote business people and scientists.

He also said that Land Acquisition Act should not be used by capitalists to take land forcibly from the farmers. "Barren land should be developed. But people's permission is needed to acquire any land," Swamiji concluded.

Vijay Kumar Hegde said, "Nearly 100 engineers were working for the energy generation plant. Kemmannu village panchayat has granted permission. The present set up is temporary and complete installation will take 15 days. After the submission of DPR presentation, we will go for the mega project. This project saves fossil fuel, no CRZ violation, no harm to fishing and moreover this is the first patented tidal energy project in the world."

Pejawar Swamiji was honoured on the occasion by Vijay Kumar Hegde.
