Mysuru, Mar 2: In a shocking incident which occurred in the swimming pool of Mysore University at Saraswatipuram here on Saturday February 28 afternoon, a 14-year-old boy drowned in the pool, in spite of the presence of life guards.

Mahanthesh (14), son of KSRTC bus conductor, Shankar, and resident of Aravind Nagar here, was the victim of this accident. He was an eighth standard student of Jyothi School in Kuvempunagar here.

It is said that Mahanthesh arrived at the swimming pool along with some of his friends at around 3 pm, and was swimming in the pool at a spot where the water is only three feet deep. It is said that in course of time, he moved by holding on to the sidewalls of the pool towards the part of the pool where the depth of water is 12 feet, As he was not good at swimming, he started struggling to save himself, after facing the danger of drowning.

The life guards noticed his condition late. They rushed to his rescue, and provided first aid on the spot. He was being taken to hospital when he breathed his last, the policemen said.
